I have a gateway LT4004u laptop computer. I tried to restore it to the factory installation but didn't save all files first. Now when I try to start it up it says windows can't install on this...

You need to reinstall Windows on your laptop.
Use a computer that has a CD drive and copy the Windows installation CD to an USB memory stick.
To install Windows plug this memory stick with the Windows installation files into the USB port of your laptop then boot up your laptop and install Windows.

Hi!! I have a Compaq Presario that a friend gave me a while back that used to work and start up..but it doesn't now and I haven't been on it in months. It keeps saying that: Windows could not

The "Win32 config" system folder and the files within it are crucial to the Windows Operating System's stability. If any of these files become damaged or corrupted, you likely receive error messages. Fortunately, Microsoft puts the files to repair these problems on the installation CD that comes with your operating system. The original install disk offers a quick way to repair the system. Damaged files are replaced in only a few minutes.

Insert your Windows CD into the computer drive. Restart your computer. On startup, look for the message, "Press any key to boot from CD" and press "Enter" on your keyboard. You should see the blue "Welcome to Setup" screen. Click "Enter" on the "Welcome to Setup" screen. Read the "Microsoft Software License Terms," then press "F8." Use your arrow keys, go down and select the Windows installation you want to repair. Press "R" for "Repair." Windows will now start to restore the Win32 System to your computer.

How to install nortons

If you are trying to install Norton from a CD/DVD, insert the CD/DVD into your CD/DVD drive.

If the autoplay option shows up automatically, click on "run ****.exe from the CD/DVD" and it will start installing Norton. Now, during the installation, you must follow the on-screen instructions.

If the autoplay doesn't show up, open your computer, right click over the CD/DVD drive and click on "Open Autoplay". Select "run ****.exe from the CD/DVD" and Installation will now start.

If you want to install Norton from a downloaded copy, double-click over the downloaded package (****.exe) and follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps, Mrityunjay.

What's your problem? cd drive won't open

if you have warranty - contact the repair center, if not, open the case and check if the power plug of the Cd/DVD drive is all the way in. unplug it an then plug it back in again.
If that doesn't help - buy a new drive. they are like 30$ nowdays and install it the same way in like the one that doesn't work was installed.

Have windows 7 on new computer, installed Adobe Pagemaker which is fine but want to turn files into PDF format, message say's no printer driver installed. Have tried to install but windows will not let...

the printer will need to be installed in compatibility mode....un-install the printer from control panel.
pain in the **** i know, but least you'll know from now on, how to install older programs & drivers in to windows 7....
if your installing from a disk, then put the disk in, then when the auto run box comes up, close it...
open computer instead from the start menu.
right click on the cd drive with the disk in, & select open.
drag & drop the contents of the disk on to your desktop....make a new folder to put it all in, if you need to.
then once it's copied across, right click on the install/application icon.
from the top of the menu click "check compatibility" if you dont see it,click off it & then try right clicking on it again untill you see it.
windows will scan & set itself to the right settings for that program.
then click try recommended settings.....followed by START PROGRAM.
if it all installs ok click next then click YES KEEP THESE SETTING FOR THIS PROGRAM NEXT TIME.
then go to the printers web site & update it with the latest software, thats if windows doesn't do it for you.....TIP:(white flag @ bottom right of screen)
do this with all older software.....windows 7 is **** hot when it comes to running older programs, im using a windows 98 program call photo express on mine...no problem.

GOOD LOOK MATE.

Im trying to scan a document but its saying error code 2106. i have it hooked up through wireless

Try these things:

1. place a doc to scan in the scanner. Close the lid and hit MENU, COPY document, START.

If that doesn't work you'll need to contact kodak. If it does then try this next:

2. Check for ADMINISTRATOR rights.

  1. RIGHT CLICK on the kodak icon and select Properties > Compatibility tab > Run this program as an administrator
  2. Select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
  3. click APPLY
  4. click OK
Then try scanning again. If it still doesn't work then-

Reload the driver:

  1. select Start > Run.
  2. Type %windir%, then click OK.
  3. Double-click twain_32.
  4. Right-click Kodak, then select Delete.
  5. Insert the KODAK All-in-One Printer Software CD into the appropriate drive, then go to (cd drive: > printer > scanner.
Double-click aioscannr.msi, then follow the instructions to remove it
  6. Then go to cd drive: > printer > scanner, then double-click aioscannr.msi, and follow the instructions to install the file.
  7. Open Home Center Software
  8. Select Scan Documents and Pictures.
  9. Scan a document
If it still doesn't work then you'll need to take it in for service.

CD player will not work

Try a different CD. iIf the computer doesn't recognize it at all, listen for the drive to spin and look for a blinking light on the CD tray. These signs do not necessarily mean the CD drive isn't broken. I would find the model number of your laptop and do a search on eBay for a replacement CD drive. These are very easy to switch out. If the new one works, then you're set. If it doesn't work, there may be an issue with your motherboard.
