MagicJack caller ID issue

MagicJack caller ID Shows on the softphone, but not on my cordless phone handset. The handset just shows "Incoming Call", but when I plug the cordless phone into the landline the caller ID works fine. I tried the "100k ohm resistor fix" that I have seen online with no success. Any help Please!

Yes, Win XP home addition Sp2. Calling works, in and out, just a caller ID Problem. The Phone is a AT&T TL92328 DECT6.0 3-Handset Phone System w/ Bluetooth.

It's now working! Not exactly sure how, I updated my USB drivers and updated the MagicJack. It's now showing incoming number, and like on a cell-phone, if I have the name stored in the directory on the phone, it shows name with the number.
Thank's to anyone who tried to research this issue for me.

Just purchased a Uniden 5.8 Ghz 8560 cordless phone to use with MJ and caller ID is not working. It does work on our landline. How can this be remedied?

    Caseyo596,
It sounds like you have found a different way to apply the 100k ohm resistor fix.( Which entails soldering a resistor across the line) This fix was posted on the unofficial MagicJack site, but your method may be much easier for some folks!
As I stated earlier, this fix may not work for everyone, but has seen great success for many.
My fix was updating my usb drivers & MJ software, finishing with a computer restart, with phone plugged into MJ & MJ plugged into USB port.
The old hard line phone you have connected has added some resistance across the line, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess about 100k ohms worth.
Good going! I hadn't thought of that...

  • GTFrench Jan 18, 2009

Had/have the same problem with MJ's CID. Haven't gotten to Radio Shack yet to try the 100K resister fix, but read here about the addition of an old corded phone. Wow. Worked. Go figure. Running an AT&T DECT 6.0 base with 3 remotes. Base is wired to the MJ with about 30 feet of conventional 4-wire phone line. Knew the problem was related to the length which at 30 feet is apparently longish for MJ. CID would not work. Dragged out an old Bell South wired phone, put a 2-into-1 coupler plugged directly into MJ then connected the 30-ft. line to the AT&T phone into one socket of the coupler, and the old Bell South phone into the other. Now have CID on the AT&T (the old Bell South phone doesn't have CID cabability). Wanted to be sure I wasn't coming to the old "Frog" conclusion (scientist: ". . . cut off both frog's legs, and yelled at frog to jump. Frog would not jump. Conclusion: cutting off frog's legs makes frog go deaf. . ."). So, unplugged the Bell South, CID quit working. Reconnected Bell South, CID started working again. So far, consistent. May be that the old Bell South phone has the appropriate resistance built in. But at this point, who cares? It works!

If you have an internal dialup modem installed on your computer just get a phone cord and run from the Magic Jack to the "line" port of the modem then connect your phone(s) to the "phone or handset" port. Works GREAT!

The downloadable Magicfeatures Plugin for magicJack provides a proper permanent fix to the real underlying caller id display problem.
It also provides full caller id name display support with real time online reverse number lookup as well as call waiting caller id support. You get talking caller id too.
You can download it at http://www.pcphonesoft.com .

The Y-adapter (3-way coupler) worked for me too. I would try this fix. I used 2- 5 in phone lines to connect magicjack to adapter and adapter to computer. Plugged phone in and it worked =)

Hello everyone.

I resently had this problem with my Uniden cordless phones.
I have my Magic jack hooked to my house phone lines and disconnected from my outside service provider.
WIth this setup all of the jacks in the house work fine.. no static or drop in quality.
They say on the MJ FAQ site to use a powered USB hub to get the Caller ID working but thats not an option.

Im running windows XP Pro SP3 and the MJ is hooked right into the wall outlet and the Base of the cordless phones are in my garage.
The Caller ID never worked at my new house.

Well today i hooked up a plane old corded phone i found digging through boxes to one of the outlets.
Some one called and all of a sudden the Caller ID worked.

I then disconnected the corded phone witch has no caller ID or batters just a plane old phone and it stopped working.

I plugged it back in and it worked again.
So for some reason hooking a plane phone to the network it made the Caller ID work..
I lived without for 4 months until now.

Hope this helps some one and thanks for the read.

Casey

It is looking for the 100 KiloOhm Resistor. but you don't need a small modular plug. Pick up a dual surface mount wall jack and fasten the resistor accross the green and red wires. The corded phone has that impedence integrated in the circuitry as it is physically connected to the hand set.

I have a uniden 5.8 with two bases. It replaced a vtech that had an answering machine base. The vtech worked great on the caller id and I believe it was cause it had a answering machine in its base so essentialy it was a hardwired phone and must have had the correct resisters cause my cid worked fine. BUT when I bought my new uniden two base unite neither phone would pic up the cid till I red this forum and hooked up a y connector and plugged in a corded phone and it made the caller id on the hand held unit work. So I went to radio shack bought a modulation jack screwed the red and green wire to two screws with a 100k Ohm 1/2 watt resistor between the screws and just like magic (no pun intended. lol) it worked!!!!! :) So this is another solution if you are not good at soldering. :) Hope this helps some one. :)

I did the same thing brianbtn did- plugged the magic jack into my modem "LINE" port, then plugged my phone (a Uniden 5.8 GHz) into the "PHONE" port of the modem, and the caller ID instantly started working. Though I agreee this is a bit annoying, I have a 100% working phone at home now for $20 a year, instead of having to stand in certain spots in the house to use my cell. I'm not complaining!

MagicJackCallerIDFix.com sells a small modular plug that fixes the caller ID problem. It's just a 100K ohm resistor across the line. But for those who don't know how to do it or don't have the equipment to do it, this is an easy fix.

Finally I got the Magicjack to display CID on the Vtec 5.8 MGHz telephone. I did the 100K resister thing to the modulator, and it works like a charm...name and number on CID is now seen

Thanks All

  • BobInJupiter Feb 09, 2011

I did the resister solution but I'm still just getting 'Incoming call' on my Panasonic Dect 6.0 wired base station and the remotes. Guy at Radio Shack said they sell a lot of Magic Jacks and no one ever came in looking for a resister to fix caller id. Anyway we were not sure of what 100K to use and settled on 1/2 watt. Would that be the cause of the fix not working? I since read some had success with 1/4 watt. I've also tried adding an old corded phone without caller id to see if that works. Any other helpful hints will be appreciated!

I had same problem, and suddenly, callerID worked. Next day, stop working, surfing the net for solution, reading about the 100 ohm solution ... having a guess about voltage that power the usb, so, unplug power to my laptop and running it on battery power, and caller ID work.
Does anyone know how to adjust the usb power ? (need to recharge the battery, so caller ID might not work)

I tried using a powered USB hub but no luck so I went to Radio Shack and bought some 100K-Ohm 1/4 watt resistors. Only $1.00 for a pack of five. I connected the resistor across the "tip & ring" leads via some jacks on my patch panel in my data room and "bingo!!" I now have caller ID displaying on my Avaya Partner phone system. An inexpensive and easy fix!

Cheapest way to do it and without soldering is to get a surface mounted dual splitter a short phone cord and a 100KOhm Resistor. The resistor screws down on the terminals with the red and green wire. Plug the magicjack into one of the ports and your phone into the other... It will fix the Caller-id issue. Unfortunately, there is a necessary impedence that the teathered phone has (from the handset itself) that wireless phones do not supply. This repair will cost about 5 dollars at most.

I am a technician and see the issue to be too much voltage output from the magicJack. I had the caller ID issue and confirmed you can buy a cheap handset (Corded) and a telephone line splitter (costs about $2.00) to correct this issue. I got my cordless VTech phone to show CID by placing a $9.00 corded caller ID handset on the line using a $2.00 1 to 5 line splitter. $11.00 total and I don't mind because I can have a handset at both ends of my bedroom.

I bought a set of Uniden 2.4 Ghz phones and the caller ID works great on all four handsets! Not sure what the difference is, but I am happy all seems to be working fine. DIdn't do a thing except switch out the 5.6 Ghz for these 2.4 Ghz phones.

Uniden cordless phone caller id quit working

Using the Caller ID and Redial Lists
Caller ID (CID) is a service available from your telephone provider that shows the phone number (and sometimes the caller's name) of incoming calls. Contact your telephone provider for more information.
Caller ID list

Redial list

When a call comes in, the phone displays the number and name (if available) of the caller.
The phone saves the information for the last 30 received calls to the

CID list.
When it's in standby, the handset shows how many calls came in since the last time you checked the CID list.

Each handset remembers the last 5 numbers you dialed on it. The redial list is separate for each handset.

UNIDEN TRU8888-CALLER ID DOES NOT WORK

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. I think you have stored more than 100 Caller ID messages and hence the caller ID is not showing on Uniden Tru8888. In the following cases the caller ID will not be shown-

If you answer a call before the Caller ID message is received (for example, before the second ring), the Caller ID message will not appear.

When the call is received via a telephone company that does not offer Caller ID service, the caller’s phone number and name does not appear. (This includes some international calls.)

When the call is via a private branch exchange (PBX), the caller's phone number and name may not appear.

You may receive any one of the following messages:

When a private name is received; Private Name
When a private number is received; Private Number
When a unknown name is received; Unknown Name
When a unknown number is received; Unknown Number
When invalid data is received; Incomplete Data

The Caller ID list stores information for incoming calls - even unanswered calls. You can store up to 100 Caller ID messages and phonebook entries (including Speed Dials) for each handset and the base. You can view the Caller ID list through the handset or base during a call or when the phone is in standby mode.

Memory locations for Caller ID messages and Phonebook entries (including Speed Dials) are common, you can store up to all 100 entries for each handset and the base. Caller ID messages are not stored when you have 100 phonebook entries. When you have stored a total of 100 phonebook entries and Caller ID messages, the oldest Caller ID message is overwritten.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.
