MagicJack caller ID issue

If you have an internal dialup modem installed on your computer just get a phone cord and run from the Magic Jack to the "line" port of the modem then connect your phone(s) to the "phone or handset" port. Works GREAT!

The Y-adapter (3-way coupler) worked for me too. I would try this fix. I used 2- 5 in phone lines to connect magicjack to adapter and adapter to computer. Plugged phone in and it worked =)

Hello everyone.

I resently had this problem with my Uniden cordless phones.
I have my Magic jack hooked to my house phone lines and disconnected from my outside service provider.
WIth this setup all of the jacks in the house work fine.. no static or drop in quality.
They say on the MJ FAQ site to use a powered USB hub to get the Caller ID working but thats not an option.

Im running windows XP Pro SP3 and the MJ is hooked right into the wall outlet and the Base of the cordless phones are in my garage.
The Caller ID never worked at my new house.

Well today i hooked up a plane old corded phone i found digging through boxes to one of the outlets.
Some one called and all of a sudden the Caller ID worked.

I then disconnected the corded phone witch has no caller ID or batters just a plane old phone and it stopped working.

I plugged it back in and it worked again.
So for some reason hooking a plane phone to the network it made the Caller ID work..
I lived without for 4 months until now.

I have a uniden 5.8 with two bases. It replaced a vtech that had an answering machine base. The vtech worked great on the caller id and I believe it was cause it had a answering machine in its base so essentialy it was a hardwired phone and must have had the correct resisters cause my cid worked fine. BUT when I bought my new uniden two base unite neither phone would pic up the cid till I red this forum and hooked up a y connector and plugged in a corded phone and it made the caller id on the hand held unit work. So I went to radio shack bought a modulation jack screwed the red and green wire to two screws with a 100k Ohm 1/2 watt resistor between the screws and just like magic (no pun intended. lol) it worked!!!!! :) So this is another solution if you are not good at soldering. :) Hope this helps some one. :)

I did the same thing brianbtn did- plugged the magic jack into my modem "LINE" port, then plugged my phone (a Uniden 5.8 GHz) into the "PHONE" port of the modem, and the caller ID instantly started working. Though I agreee this is a bit annoying, I have a 100% working phone at home now for $20 a year, instead of having to stand in certain spots in the house to use my cell. I'm not complaining!

I have the same problem with my MJ. After reading the other comments here, I plugged a Y adapter into the magic jack, then plugged a phone line between my computer modem and the magic jack. Plugged the Panasonic cordless into the other end of the Y connector and Wa La caller Id!! Thanks to all who posted.

I am using my MJ as regular phone line and sometimes as a fax line ,so I have my phone cord running to my fax machine and then to my cordless phone , that solved my CID problem.Good Luck

MagicJackCallerIDFix.com sells a small modular plug that fixes the caller ID problem. It's just a 100K ohm resistor across the line. But for those who don't know how to do it or don't have the equipment to do it, this is an easy fix.

Finally I got the Magicjack to display CID on the Vtec 5.8 MGHz telephone. I did the 100K resister thing to the modulator, and it works like a charm...name and number on CID is now seen

I had same problem, and suddenly, callerID worked. Next day, stop working, surfing the net for solution, reading about the 100 ohm solution ... having a guess about voltage that power the usb, so, unplug power to my laptop and running it on battery power, and caller ID work.
Does anyone know how to adjust the usb power ? (need to recharge the battery, so caller ID might not work)

I just got the mj i could not get numbers to come up on my cid on my cordless but there is one phone i found that works the phone is a pre sidian 43-271 DECT 6.0 cordless i got it at radio shack for 30 bucks i also no sombody who has a mj and they use the same phone with the mj and it works for them to

I tried using a powered USB hub but no luck so I went to Radio Shack and bought some 100K-Ohm 1/4 watt resistors. Only $1.00 for a pack of five. I connected the resistor across the "tip & ring" leads via some jacks on my patch panel in my data room and "bingo!!" I now have caller ID displaying on my Avaya Partner phone system. An inexpensive and easy fix!

Cheapest way to do it and without soldering is to get a surface mounted dual splitter a short phone cord and a 100KOhm Resistor. The resistor screws down on the terminals with the red and green wire. Plug the magicjack into one of the ports and your phone into the other... It will fix the Caller-id issue. Unfortunately, there is a necessary impedence that the teathered phone has (from the handset itself) that wireless phones do not supply. This repair will cost about 5 dollars at most.

I am a technician and see the issue to be too much voltage output from the magicJack. I had the caller ID issue and confirmed you can buy a cheap handset (Corded) and a telephone line splitter (costs about $2.00) to correct this issue. I got my cordless VTech phone to show CID by placing a $9.00 corded caller ID handset on the line using a $2.00 1 to 5 line splitter. $11.00 total and I don't mind because I can have a handset at both ends of my bedroom.

I bought a set of Uniden 2.4 Ghz phones and the caller ID works great on all four handsets! Not sure what the difference is, but I am happy all seems to be working fine. DIdn't do a thing except switch out the 5.6 Ghz for these 2.4 Ghz phones.
