I believe it got wet during a move. When plugged back in a solid consistent alarm sounded. Left it off for many months. Plugged it back in and now there is no alarm, sounds like it is trying to boot. Attached monitor I used for that computer, but it keeps turning off showing amber light after it shows green light on. Tried another monitor but that says override. I need this computer to work as a medical transcriptionist. I have been out of work for 3 years and am desperate for help with this. I loved it when it was up and running.
That was wrong typed wrong is not overide but over-range.
no monitor told or PC at all.
but if you set the pC to resolution over what the monitor can do the monitor , shows overange and goes to sleep, black screened
VGA????????
OLD monitors used on newer PCs do that,
also if Microsoft OS, is it, not told but newer OS has higher default resolutions making all monitors old fail hard.
the quick cure is put your PC into SAFEmod. w7 down is F8 hotkey
goes to 800x600 resolution most old monitors can do.
some mon can only do 1024x768 max.
frankly read the monitors manual first. it sets upper limits> !!!!
RTM read the manual on your unstated monitor vast , 1998 to now.
set the PC to the highest resolution your monitor allows.
or call a tech to your home have them fix this easy.
it is a simple problem.
next time post model of PC and monitor and we can go DIRECTY to the problem. even post photos of errors to get them correct,.'

I don't see how removing the battery would help but tried for the same problem and it did in fact do nothing.
The fan races but the system never makes it to the Bios and never displays anything on the monitor. I suspect a chip is fried on the MoBo.
Maxum52, please post the solution if you found one.

I feel your pain. I finally moved my pc to a room with no windows! But seriously, try a different monitor first. See if you can borrow someone's to just try it before you do anything else. If that borrowed monitor works fine, then you know what the problem is. (Which I believe is the problem.) By the way, what started all of your problems?

did you hear any beeps from the bios? Try to remove all the peripherals like all the PCI cards, specially the "video card", your ram's,. Once you removed and cleaned all of those, put it back, make sure that theres no loose connections and boot the computer.
SOURCE: amber colored power light on eMachine W3503
The amber power light indicates that your computer has been "sleeping" or "hibernating" and usually all it takes to restart the computer is tapping a key on the keyboard. If this is not the case, try holding the Power switch down for 6-10 seconds to force the system off. Restart in Safe Mode and try to find the settings for Sleep/hibernate, open the control panel and open the Screen Saver. Select "Change Power Settings" and set it for "Never" on sleep and hybernate.
