Overall Concern with Refrig with French Doors

Do refrigerators with French Doors provide a good seal when shut? Since there is no center post to grab onto, it seems to me like they may be problematic over time.

GE French Door PFS22MIS Door seals are torn at top of both doors. How difficult to replace?

use your model # to order new seals. they are easy to replace. Just grab an edge with your fingers and pull and the door seals will pull out of the groove they are in. to replace, start at the bottom center of each door pressing the seal into the groove. don't stretch the seal as you replace and it will fit perfectly.

Just starting not keeping things cold

If there is frost on the wall of freezer, you have a defrost problem, and not enough air is circulated due to frost build-up. If no frost and all fans and compressor is running, you have a sealed system failure. Time to replace refrig.

When you shut the ref. doors the right one stays open. there is nothing in the way. you have to go back and shut it.

First I would look on the inside bottom of the refrigerator, where the door closes into and see if you can see any scrap or drag marks on the plastic. some doors will drop just enough to grab the plastic right befor the door closes.

your hinge could be bent causing this.

take a look at the top of the doors when their closed, and see if the right door is a little lower.

some of the doors can be adjusted at the top hinge moving the door to the right lifting it in the center.

Noise from fridge when doors are closed.

There is a good chance this is the culprit.

Servicing the Evaporator Fan

In some cases, a faulty thermostat may not be the cause of a warm refrigerator or freezer. A warm box may also be caused by a defective fan, a blocked fan, or broken or bent fan blades. If the blades are jammed, try to free them. If they're bent, straighten them with pliers. If this doesn't solve the problem, call a professional service person.

On some refrigerators, the door switch operates the evaporator fan. If the fan seems to be malfunctioning, the door switch could be faulty. Test the switch as detailed in the last page, and replace it if necessary.

Doors creak loudly when closed and pushed from the outside. Don't when open.

This short solution may help solve your creaking problem. First thing is make sure the freezer door is capable of closing properly and is not rubbing or catching anywhere. I sometimes add a washer or 2 to the center hinge under the freezer door so it doesn't rub anything. Put a little Vaseline ( or food grade silicone lubricant ) on the hinge side of the seal. I then raise the front of the refrigerator so that the front of the refrigerator is a little higher than the back of the refrigerator. Never level a fridge with a level. Once you have the door closing properly and front slightly higher than the back...let the fresh food door close from 90 degrees on it's own and the freezer door may "pop" open a little but will close again on it's own...and stay closed once all is set up properly. We see this more often now and have no trouble with the door staying open again after setting up the refrigerator properly. Putting vaseline insid the hinge pins too is a good idea.
Let me know if I can assist you better, Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE Profile Door Seal

There is a cam at the top of both doors the grab on to the fridge to hold the door s shut. There has been a problem with them breaking and not holding tight. Check the door and make sure the cam is gripping the cabinet correctly.
