I had already updated the software. I am currently just using "drag & drop" to transfer to the MP3.

    Thanks !!!!!!!

I seem to have the same problem that a lot of people are having with these RCA Opal M4208 8GB mp3 players. I have installed the EasyRip Software, used the firmware updates as instructed, & I still have to use the "drap & drop" to get music on there, (even with the installed RCA Video Converter I cannot LOAD video into the mp3 player b/c it is still undetected by the RCA EasyRip). It appears as "Opal" under my flash drive port, but as far as being able to access the full Module Dock for the EasyRip software, no can do. I have been doing this for days, going crazy here......

Turn your player on and go to settings. Scroll down the menu until you see "PROTOCOL" and switch it from MSC to MTP. Your computer will now recognize your device, and you will be able to add whatever you want to it.

When i got my rca mp3 the easy rip software was able to open.

If you have upgrade your computer after it was busted, that could cause your old version of the easy rip software to not recognize your rca mp3. what you'll prob need to do is update the easy rip software.

MP3 Player not recognizing Real Player Video Files

That Opal's Easy Rip Software does not recognize Real Video format naturally. You may have to download a free program called Riva FLV Encoder to convert the Real Video files to AVI format. Once they are in AVI format, the Easy Rip software will recognize the file and convert them to your player. If you have lost your installation CD, you can get the Easy Rip software from:
www.rcaopal.com

Make sure the lock switch on the back is in the unlocked position. For the player to say "Loading," especially the first time you plug it into the computer, is normal - your computer is communicating with the player, installing drivers, and trying to load the Easy Rip Software. If it stays on loading past 10 minutes, however, something is not right. If you have selected to open the device automatically using Windows Media Player, you are headed for trouble, especially if you have more music and other files on your computer than the mp3 player can handle. If you have accidentally done this, disable auto-sync in Windows Media Player.
If you have checked the above, and you are still having problems, disconnect the mp3 player from the computer. Hold in the power button for 10 seconds or more to reset the mp3 player. Try plugging the mp3 player into the computer again. If it stays on loading for more than 10 minutes, unplug the mp3 player, go into the settings menu and change the mode from MSC to MTP or vice versa. If it still misbehaves when you replug the mp3 player into the computer, download the latest Easy Rip software from RCA's website and update your player's firmware - take note of the section they have on Windows Vista if you have Windows Vista. Good luck!

I'm still having problems with my RCA M4208RD-B MP3 player

You can get a starter kit which has a charger that you plug in that solves the power issue. Once you get it charged try checking to see if your computer is set to automatically detect new hardware. Also did you get a chance to install easy rip or did that not work either. another thing you can try is to open Windows Media Player when the player is pluged in and see if WMP picks it up, if it does then you can add songs that way.
