In certain cases you are able to pop them open very carefully and replace the battery, all depends on what kind of battery it is. Most are now going to the small battery packs so if yours is new that is probably what it is and there isnt a way to replace.

No, a battery is a battery as long as its 12volts. I would take it back and have it tested, if its bad Im sure they will warranty it. This would be a good time to check the charging system to insure the alternator is putting out the proper voltage and amps to keep the battery charged.
I just got done resetting the password on the emachines e627. I ended up dissassembling the unit, desoldering the cmos battery from the motherboard, soldering it back on, and reassembling. It booted to windows after this. Repair time: 2 hours. It is a little difficult since I didn't have the repair manuals. The emachine connectors for the keyboard, touchpad, and wireless are fragile at best. After doing it once, I could do it again in 30 minutes.
The battery light indicates either your alternator is gone or your battery has a fault. Start the vehicle and disconnect the negative battery terminal. If the vehicle continues to run replace the battery if the vehicle dies remove the alternator and replace it. The power steering pumps on fords are problematic at best. Once they get a whine in them they usually keep it. You need to repair the leak if you every hope to get rid of it. If you operated the vehicle for any length of time with the fluid low or empty you most likely will need to replace the power steering pump as you have blown the pump by running it dry.
If you will take my advice you will do yourself more good by running system restore to factory default and remember to backup your documents and files.
