Auto document feeder

I put paper in Auto Document feeder, it says original loaded on screen. Push copy or fax. I hear moter run but rollers do not flip down and paper is not pulled in. Then screen says to puch ok and reload. I do but it do the same thing again. I have checked and everything seems right with rollers. Printer is only two months old.
Thanks

Same problem. Yes, the tape has been removed. Yes, I've put the rollers back into place correctly. The roller arm isn't always coming down to make contact with the paper. I can see it "jump" in place, but it's not catching and coming down.

Exact same problem! It worked when we first got it about 3 weeks ago. The majority of the time the roller arm isn't coming down and the rollers jump about twice and then the error message comes up. The roller "arm" can't be pushed down to make contact with the rollers. I have seen it make contact once since the problem began- not sure what was different that time- and then there was a paper jam...

I have tried to talk with HP's customer service but nothing has worked so far.

Did you make sure the tape is removed inside the Document feeder,or maybe you need to check to see if anything is stuck in the rollers. Open the door (if you have not already done so) to the document feeder and you will see pictures on the inside showing how you can remove and/or change the roller (make sure everything is put back as the picture. Good luck, I hope that is all that is wrong with it.

How to fax

Load an original in the automatic document feeder (ADF)
You can copy, scan, or fax a single or multiple-page A4, letter, or legal-size document by
placing it in the document feeder tray.
The document feeder tray holds a maximum of 20 sheets of letter or A4-size paper or 15
sheets of legal-size paper.
To send a basic fax from the control panel
1.
Load your originals. For additional information, see Load originals.
2. Enter the fax number by using the keypad, press Speed Dial or a one-touch speed
dial button to select a speed dial, or press Redial/Pause to redial the last number
dialed.
TIP: To add a pause in the fax number you are entering, press Redial/Pause,
or press the Symbols (*) button repeatedly, until a dash (-) appears on the display.
3. Press START FAX Black.
If the device detects an original loaded in the automatic document feeder, it
sends the document to the number you entered.
TIP: If the recipient reports issues with the quality of the fax you sent, you can
try changing the resolution or contrast of your fax.

When faxing does paper face uup or down

You load the originals print side uo on the document feeder tray or print side down on the glass.
To send a single page fax you can either load the original on document feeder tray or on the glass; to send a multi-page fax you must use the document feeder tray.

The position of the paper is the same either you copy, fax or scan.
All this is clearly explained in the user's manual, that you should read and you can download from HP support pages for you printer:

I have a message coming up that I don't know what it means.

ADF = Auto Document Feeder (Usually on top)

RADF = Rear Auto Document Feeder, (On the back)

Something is stuck in one of these, a piece of paper, foam, paperclip, twist tie . . . it could be anything. Follow the squealing sound and check the paper feeder rollers.

Find what is in the way and remove it.

Cheers.

Document Feeder Jamming.

The feed rollers may be worn out and need to be replaced, you can try cleaning the rollers with some alcohol, this may also make it feed better. but if it starts to act up again it might be time for new rollers.

Hope this is of some help.

Will not copy

The machine is falsely reading that there is paper in the Automatic Document Feeder. That is why it is saying "Original Loaded" before you put the paper on the glass. When you hit Copy, it is trying to pull paper in from the ADF, when it doesn't get any, it reads "Reload Document" because it thinks there is a jam. There is either something stuck in the ADF causing it to trip the paper sensor, or the paper sensor is broken or dislodged. Open the top cover of the Auto Feeder and look for a small black piece of plastic that looks like it moves back and forth when paper hits it and see if there is anything wrong with it.

Hope it helps!

Top feeder won't work properly

hello!

have you tried cleaning the separator pad inside the automatic document feeder?

try to Load one or two sheets of unused plain white full-size paper into the document feeder tray, and then press Start Copy Black to pull the pages through the automatic document feeder. The plain paper releases and absorbs residue from the rollers and separator pad.

If the problem persists, clean the rollers and separator pad manually

Auto feed of outgoing fax document.

Replacing the roller can be prety extensive work. Try to check and make that the pick-up roller on the bottom is flat across sometimes it can get turns backwards and it has a round side that will not grasp the paper. If this is ture just take your finger and push the roller forwards. You can alo take a clean wipe and wipe off all of the rollers the rollers are made to be a little tacky when they start to get a little older dust can build up on them causing them not to grab the paper
