FAT to NTFS without Format

I have a HDD which is unable to boot and the error is ''NTLDR is missing'.
When I make the HDD as slave ...it shows that HDD's c: drive size as 10MB instead of 10GB ....!

I want to recover the data from the c drive ....but the d drive in that HDD is perfectly fine. and is showing as 10GB in computer management and not in windows explorer.

Please Help !!!!

sTEPS TO PERFROM USING THE CD

Insert the Windows CD and start the computer.
When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R.
Type a number corresponding to the Windows installation you wish to repair (usually 1) and press Enter.
When prompted, type the administrator password and press Enter.
From the command prompt, copy NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from the i386 folder of the CD to the root folder of the hard drive. In the example commands given below, C: is the hard drive and D: is the CD-ROM drive. You will need to change the drive letters if appropriate:
              COPY D:\I386\NTLDR C:\
              COPY D:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\

Remove the Windows XP CD from the drive and restart the computer.

HP Pavilion TX1000 Series with new 500 gb hdd unable to install windows 7, after partitions on hdd, it disappears, and unable to install os

not sure what "after partitions" means. (ah, at that point in install)
dual booting?
HP disk set
or Microsoft set.?
tell what attempting and where stuck exactly.
what screen , and what error exactly.?
new 500, new in box, new to your or new for an APPLE.
if new, really new it has mfg codes on box for any special pre-formatting...

i bet the new disk is pre-formatted. (or really not new)
seen many new disk in box with antistatic bag breached.
bingo , not really new.
what disk ,? Seagate (best)

windoz hates that, (setup.exe running)
erase the new 500
3 ways.(lots really)
1: put new 500 , as a 2nd HDD in PC #2,
2: with disk-manger delete all partitions on it. its now ready.

A: using boot windows, PE disk, do same in this PC.
B: using boot cd, boot and go to repair mode,(first screen)
then using CMD prompt mode, use DIskpart, to do that.
C: using any bood Linux, live CD same PC, run pparted and erase the partitions.
I can go more, but stop.

All windows install disk, cept w10?>
will erase any windows partitions (if you force it)
but will not do it if the format is ALIEN to MS.
Alien means not fat 16 , Fat 32/ NTFS,
Alien means Apple or other 100s of systems alien to MX.
on windows 10, it will balk with any data there what so ever.
protecting the NOOBs. cure is above.

I cant install windows xp because of... i dont know!

Here is what you should do, go to a computer store and buy a 40G HD. Try installing on that. It could be the size, but most likly not. Im going to guess and say take a look at the bottom of your reinstall disk. If it has any scratches, there is your problem. NTLDR is your boot sector on you HD.

Acer aspire 5100 nfltr is missing error

The best way to cure this problem is to install a new copy of windows xp. You have ntldr missing error, that means the problem is with the os loader. If you choose to reinstall os then please try to repartition and reformat your hdd.

You can find the drivers for your laptop at

Samsung 200gb hdd

When u bought a new hdd, it shud not have any partition on it. but in ur case, I assume u have formatted it to ntfs but no operating system is installed in it.

If u want to make the new hdd as slave and have another old hdd as primary, that have already an operating system installed in it, then the problem shud be hdd boot priority in bios. Enter ur bios and check for hdd boot priority and put the old hdd to the top most order, then restart. this shud fix the problem.

If u installed OS in ur new hdd (win xp),
1) ntldr or ntdetect.com is missing on root dir. (c:\). If u have another computer that works and have xp installed, just put this new hdd along with the current hdd and boot to windows. Copy ntldr and ntdetect.com to your new hdd. Or another way is just repair using windows xp boot cd.
2)the windows partition is not set 'active'. to set active, boot into winxp setup and press 'r'. this will lead to recovery console. type ur passwrod for admin (def=none). use diskpart command to set active. for easy way, put the new hdd to another computer. boot to windows. rightclick my computer, choose manage. on left pane select disk manager. rightclick on ur partition, then set active.

Hope this help
