A POTs (plain old telephone) line should never be connected to a router. that adsl filter does not make a phone line share a data line.
ADSL is a type of internet service supplied over a phone line. think of it as raw (unusable) when its on the phone line. then you use your dsl filter/splitter to feed the raw internet into a special dsl modem and the other port can be used by a standard phone.

you will know a dsl modem when you see it because its uplink or internet port will only be big enough to fit a phone cord into, not an internet cord. these dsl modems then feed usable internet to your routers and all devices on your network. but, like i said before, at this point it is too late for your phone and internet to share the same wire.

OK, thats not entirely true

pin out of RJ45 internet

2=orange *
3=green/white *
4=blue
5=blue/white
6=green *
7=brown/white
8=brown

1,2,3+6 are used in a typical network

if your network is typical you can "get fancy" and use 4,5,7+8 for telephone or even put 2 data lines on the same wire (not recommended for long distances). however, this may involve cutting some wires and splicing them together or something.

What does a poor line condition error mean

These errors are usually related to interference, static, or noise on your phone line. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check for a dial tone:
1. Press the Hook button on your Brother Intellifax 2820 and listen for a dial tone.
If there is no dial tone, press Hook again and proceed to step 2.
If there is a dial tone, press Hook again and move to step 4.

2. Verify telephone cord/line connection:
Ensure that your telephone cord/line is correctly connected to the port labeled LINE on your machine (located on the lower left side).
If the cord is already in the LINE port, proceed to step 3.
If it's connected to EXT, remove it from there and connect it to the LINE port.
Press Hook and check for a dial tone.
If still no dial tone, proceed to step 3.
If there's a dial tone now, move to step 4.

3. Test with a known working telephone:
Disconnect the telephone cord/line from the LINE port on your machine.
Connect it to a known working telephone and test for a dial tone.
If there's no dial tone, the issue is related to the telephone line or wall jack. Contact your telephone service provider.
If there's a dial tone, reconnect the cord/line to the LINE port on your machine.
Press Hook and check for a dial tone.
If still no dial tone, consider warranty and service options.
If there's a dial tone, proceed to step 4.

4. Remove splitters or other devices:
Check if you have any splitters, commshare devices, credit card machines, or power strips connected to your machine or the telephone wall jack.
If yes, remove them for testing purposes.
After removing any devices, continue to step 5.

5. Adjust Compatibility settings:
Press Menu/Set.
Navigate to Miscellaneous > Compatibility.
Choose Basic (for VoIP).
Press Menu/Set and then Stop/Exit.

6. Send a fax:
Insert the document face down in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).
Adjust paper guides to fit the width of your document.
Enter the fax number using the dial pad.
Press Fax Start.

Remember that testing the Brother machine on a different, known-working telephone line can help determine if the issue is related to the machine or the telephone line. If the problem persists, consider contacting Brother Customer Service for further assistance.

I cannot hear a dial tone.

The telephone line cord is connected to the [EXT] jack on the unit. Connect to the [LINE] jack (page 21).

L If you use a splitter/coupler to connect the unit, remove the splitter/coupler and connect the unit to the wall jack directly. If the unit operates properly, check the splitter/coupler.

L Disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired. If the

working telephone does not operate properly, contact your telephone company.

L The power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the connections.

L If you connected the unit through a computer modem, connect the unit directly to a telephone line jack.

I cannot make calls. L The dialing mode setting may be wrong. Change the setting (feature #120 on page 22).

The unit does not ring. L The ringer volume is turned OFF. Adjust it (page 23).

I use AOL as my ISP, with British Telecom supplying my telephone line rental. On Friday 2nd my internet connection kept dropping out, and then eventually stopped connecting altogether. My original router...

If BT tested the phone line is OK but did AOL test the connection to the Netgear router and get the IP address of your Netgear router.
The phone connection is OK but the ADSL connection from the telephone exchange may not be working, that is why you are not getting an ADSL light.

Wrpn824v2 router keeps restting

This seems to be failure with the router hardware. Reset the router using steps below:

At the back of the router you will find a small tiny hole (which has a small button inside it). Press the button with the help of a paper clip. and hold it down for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, please release the button and power off the device for 5 seconds.

If the issue persists, then upgrade the firmware on the router by downloading the firmware from the link below:

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1222

If the issue still exists then it is time for you to either replace or purchase a new router.

Rate it, if it helps.
