A set of identical two-way radios (walkie-talkies), set to the same channels and interference eliminator codes (IEC), cannot communicate with each other. I have read the manual, gone through all the settings countless times, and these radios simply do not communicate. Both receive on the weather channel, but they do not respond to neither the PTT (push to talk) buttons, nor the ''transmit call tone'' buttons. A friend of mine has a more recent model, and when transmitting from his radio, on the same channel/IEC, only *one* of my two radios received -- but even that radio still could *not* transmit and be heard/received. Have you had similar no-communication issues? Please advise. Thank you.
Had the same problem...took out nimh...replaced with triple A...works great!!
Thank you!!
To troubleshoot: Unlock your keypad lock, then reprogram your radios to the following settings. (Check function after each change)
1) Shut off the Interference Eliminator (set to zero).
2) Turn off the Qt filter.
3) Vox setting to off.
By shutting off all the "bells and whistles" of the radio, you will take it back to being just simply on a frequency. If your radios do not communicate with one another then, or with your friend's radios, you have radio which is failing to operate.
If the radios do work in this simple mode. One by one add the special features back until you discover the culprit.
Sounds like you have at least one defective radio. I suggest returning them for an exchange or refund. If this is not possible, contact Motorola using the number in your user manual, and they will help you with replacements. Have your serial numbers handy when calling.
i had two fv700 do the same thing. i replaced the nimh battery packs in both radios and replaced with triple a batteries and both started working properly

Thanks for your reply, but I've tried that already, and the radios are still not working. Oddly, they are brand new -- I opened the package two days ago. I've tried both radios on:
Also, in all cases, I've tried QT on and off, and iVox off.channel 1, interference eliminator 0 (zero)
channel 1, IE 1
channel x, IE 0 (zero)
channel x, IE y
xtni set to channel 6. I could transmit but could not receive.
