How to use my phone as a modem

Hi,as far as I know your ACER does not have a SIM card slot thus not capable 3G Data / GPRS connection..however if you have or obtain a

yes you can..

What is USB GSM modem?

you might have to open up your network connections click start control panel network connections this may vary depending on your operating system look for local area connection if you see a red x or a yellow exclamation or question mark you will need to update or install the driver or it could be firewalled
make sure your modem/routers settings are correct ie:password user name,firewall settings to allow your internet to connect to your phone

from what i have read, your router is broadcasting a signal, and your modem has an open and active internet gateway.

pls make sure that the connection from the modem to the router are correct. the modem should be connected in the port with the label internet. you may have to reset your modem AFTER you have connected the wireless router to allow the router to be assigned an ip. now with the wireless router and broadband modem connected, you can connect to the network and access the internet. pls repost if you hit any snags

connect your phone to the computer and choose com port. install the drivers. you also need to install the usb modem driver. then set up new dial-up connection with this modem, no user name or password and the number to dial is *99#

Do you have PC suite for your mobile. You need to have software CD for your nokia mobile. Once you have the software, you can connect your mobile to internet. PC suite application has options to connect your mobile to internet.

Technically no, not unless the PC where the modem is connected to is used as a Gateway/Share Internet Connection and is connected to the WAN side of the router. However, this arrangement would need a lot of manual configuration and settings on the modem side PC as well as the client PCs.

Alternately, you may be better off connecting the modem PC to a hub rather than a router and set static IP adds on the client PCs.

Hi Youradickhead, I have experienced similar problems previously with Telstra and it was not due to the D-link as far as could verify. It seemed to me that Telstra was able to detect that you were using your internet connection for phone conversations and drop your line. Alternatively it may have to do with the filters that they provide. Try it without the filter, i.e. connect your modem cable straight into the socket (cable port).

i see,, seems your router is not configured, you can try an alternate way.. if you have windows xp, goto control panel select internet options, goto to connections tab then click set up button a wizard will pop up, click next then select connect to the internet then click next, select set up my connection manually,, select connect using a broadband connection that is always on then finish...

To confirm that your PC is connected to the router, open a browser and type 192.168.1.1; In most older LinkSys routers, the default username is none/blank and the default password is "admin." Most current Linksys routers,  the username and the password are  "admin."  Once inside the configuration page, click on "Status"; Verify that your Internet Connection has got some numbers such as IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS & MTU.

If none, your router cannot connect to the cable modem, if yes, pls post back the numbers/details. Further, pls add brand/model of your cable modem and your ISP.

In the meantime, you may have to check that all the cables are correctly plug in and that your cable modem & router are getting power from the mains.
