You can attach a curtain rail to the ceiling and hang a curtain, which doesn't have to be heavy or a dark color. Sometimes even the physical act of a curtain is enough to divide a space without taking any of the natural light away from the room.

I want to measure the square area of a room

Assuming it is a rectangle, it is fairly easy, in that it is the length of the room multiplied by the width of the room. Of course, it is never that simple, so we have to divide the room into zones, usually rectangles, measure each zone separately as length times width, and then add up all the zones to get the total area of the room.

Any questions, let me know.

Good luck,

Paul

Tips for Picking Paint Colors: If you donā€™t think youā€™re a very creative person...

    Tips for Picking Paint Colors:

If you don’t think you’re a very creative person but want to paint your house or even just a room, you might be feeling overwhelmed by the challenge of picking a color! Don’t panic – here are some top tips for helping you choose a great color scheme for your painting project.

1.Use the color wheel. Don’t be afraid to take a look at the color wheel – it’s not just for decorators to show off to their customers with. You can ask someone in a paint shop to explain to you how primary, secondary and tertiary colors work together (or sometimes against each other).

2.Try and decide what kind of ‘energy’ and brightness you want in the area you are painting. Is it a lounge that you want to be cosy? Or a bedroom that’s modern and bright? It really helps to visualize the end result.

3.Are you hoping to your space look bigger or a large room cozier? If so, you can use color to help you. Small spaces will benefit from pale, cool colors and larger areas can be made to feel more intimate with warm, darker colors.

4.Watch out for lighting issues. Natural daylight shows the color in its truest way whereas fluorescent lights cast more of a blue tone over the overall color. So make sure you pay attention to the lighting issues around the area you are painting.

5.If you want to play it safe you can always go for neutral colors. These are colors that don’t stand out but you can use furniture and decorations to really add the splashes of color while keeping the walls in more subtle neutrals.

Have fun! You can always paint really small areas to see how it looks on the wall. And try to be bold – you’ll probably be surprised with how good it looks.

We are living in student accommodation and need a room divider to give us some privacy but don't want anything too formal. Any ideas?

If you use your imagination you can come up with some really inventive ideas, using plants, bookcases, curtains or panel dividers to create some privacy in your home without having to buy a room divider.

Is it ok to use a curtain as a room divider?

You can use a curtain as a room divider but I don't recommend itbecause curtains collect dust. Also, room dividers are a great way to make a small room feel bigger where arecurtains just close the room off.

Is it ok to use a room divider as a dressing room in a clothing store?

It is definitely acceptable to use a room divider as a dressingroom as long as there is enough space to change, there is no way to see in fromthe sides and if you can't see the changers' shadow.
