Signal Fading In and out

For some reason my Signal continues to fade in and out with my sirius radio. I have gotten a new antenna and that did not fix the problem. Does not matter if it is clear sky or very clouded it is always fading in and out about every 3 seconds making the radio go in and out. I have tried moving the antenna all around the top of the car and still does not seem to work. Does anyone know what else there is I can try?

    United States
    Xact
That I am not sure of. I know when I first had it activated about 4 years ago it worked fine. I eventually quit listening and had it deactivated. About 3 months ago my dad started using it and had it re-activated and it worked fine in his car. We moved it to mine and now the signal keeps fading.
There is not anything on top of the car.
There are only a few trees around. But the problem still happens while going down the interstate or while I am in a huge open field.

First of all are you in the United States or Canada?

Whats the model number of the unit?

Are you pointed at an Easterly direction when setting it up?

Is there anything on top of the vehicle that could be blocking the signal such as a bike or ski rack?

Are you in an area with a lot of tall trees or buildings?

Most of the Xact models use the standard Sirius antenna. Unfortunately Xact no longer supports satellite radios. You can get a replacement antenna from any Sirius dealer and see if that works. Sounds like the antenna wiring might be broken or shorted out.

My radio is showing aquiring signal.how can i get it fixed

I heard these have a common problem with the antenna line breaking within the radio. I had it happen and replaced the radio. It's a shame since I'm sure I could have fixed it. I think it happens if the radio ends up hanging from the antenna lead. Any electronic tech or engineer should be able to check continuity from the antenna jack and find/fix it.

No sirius id, no presets, all cleared... activation didn't help

You need to call sirius @ 1-888-GET-SIRIUS (438-7474) and they will remotly reset the radio for you. This has happened to me twice and this is the only way i have found to fix it.

Lost antennae reception

either the antenna is broken, or your service was cancelled. Contact SIRIUS for your account info. Did you pay to have the new radio turned on? I believe they have a $75.00 "activation fee".

Sirius radio with xm antenna

Not advised. They have different resistance and are set up for different Sat signals. Chances are you will decrease the life of your radio if you get a signal at all.

Sirius sportster sp-tk1, always displays "acquiring signal"

Hi guys!! I am a sirius satellite radio employee and unfortunately, when this happens (usually when the receiver is about 2 years old) the radio is pretty much shot. It is a common problem with the older sportster models, but not so much with the newer one. As the receivers are probably more than a year old, they are now out of warranty and the only resolution is to call us at sirius and say you want to cancel the subscription on the radio. When cancellation is imminent, we will offer to send you a replacement (although it will be a different unit not compatible with you current docking stations) at no cost to you. Sometimes an antenna replacement will actually stop the problem, but it will happen again very shortly afterward, and thus it is only a temp fix to a permanent problem. Hope this helps you out!!

SIRIUS Sportster "Acquiring Signal"

Let me save you $30.00. A new antenna will not help, nor will cleaning the contacts. I just did both of those and it did not help. I have mine in the freezer right now cooling it down. Sirius told me that I should not leave it in the car because it gets to hot. They told me to buy another unit....

NO SIGNAL all of a sudden. Gone. Lost.

Hey adam, check that antenna wire! It's probably pulling out at the antenna/magnet end. Adam, I checked that and sure enough, it was pulling out. So I put on a new antenna and problem solved! Thanks Adam!
