System keeps freezing

Problem: Your Playstation 3 console is freezing during gameplay. There are usually two problems that would cause your Playstation 3 to freeze during

gameplay. I will start with the most common problem:

1. The Blu Ray Laser is wearing out. This is a common issue among the newer video game consoles. The laser is constantly lighting up to read the discs while you are playing your Playstation 3 whether you are playing games, Blu Ray movies, or DVD movies. Eventually the laser will burn out. As it starts to wear out, first the games or movies will freeze. After a while, it will not read Blu Ray at all. Finally it will quit reading anything. 2. Overheating. This is less common. If your PS3 freezes and you shut it off and back on and it comes on ok, it's probably not overheating. If heat is the problem, it will freeze right away if you turn it back on right away without giving it time to cool off. If it turns on OK with no problem and doesn't immediately freeze up, the laser is your issue. If you turn it back on and it freezes right away, your PS3 may be overheating.

If your PS3 is overheating, the best thing to do is to make sure you do not keep it in an enclosed area. Playstation 3 systems and XBox 360 systems run very hot. You must keep it in the open so it gets as much cool air as possible! You can also upgrade the fan inside of your Playstation 3 with the Whisper Fan which increases cooling. What does the display read when this happens, I have experience with these, does it say disc recover? also when the laser reader gets old, it may be done, unless you can maybe find someone with replacement. Old or scratched cds won't read well, or skip also.

Try getting a lens cleaner disc. You should be able to find one were you get your games and/or movies.

I had the same problem with my Xbox, and the answer wasn't good. This is a hardware issue cause by the video coolor not working and the game overheating, making the video freeze totally.

Call 1-800-4MYXBOX, and have your console serial number ready. They might be able to walk you through some basic troubleshooting, but this will most likely end in you needing to send the system in for a repair.

Start with a firmware update (make sure there is no disc in the drive when you do it)

Then do a System Restore.

If that doesn't work then it's probably a problem with your blu-ray drive itself. You might get by with just cleaning the laser.

Contact Sony @ 1-877-253-SONY to request an RMA for your machine, this is a common issue and you should get a new machine.

It only freezes online during multiplayer a couple minutes into gameplay.

restart the wii 5 times in a row.. thatll cause the ship to go blank and the first cd you insert into the console will make the chip be able to read that type of cds and the rest of them will work fine..

Maybe you should fix the cds or clean them or try to fix the disc reader in the radio.
