If you ever need to rewind a un coiled pullstart spring. ... ( NEW VERSION ) How to Rewind and Replace Recoil Starter Spring - Duration: 3:53.
Sounds like the starter spring has broken, remove the three torx screws securing the starter and remove the starter, prise off the r clip holding the pulley and pawl on ( note the orientation of the clip on the pawl ) remove the pulley, the spring is in a cassette, remove the cassette and replace with new, refit the pulley, make sure the pulley locates properly into the hook on the starter spring, re fit the pawl and r clip, enter the cord into the cut a way in the side of the pulley, now wind the pueey around to tention the spring.
To rewind the spring is a bit of an art, hook the end of the spring into the stub on the starter, now start to wind each coil into the cover, making sure you keep your thumb on the coils you have wound in so as they do not spring out, otherwise order a new spring which will come pre wound in a keeper to make instalation very easy.
The starter cord is spring loaded. When the spring breaks your cord won't rewind. Usually the whole starter cord assembly is easily replaced and readily available at your local gardening goods retailer. They might even install it for you for a nominal fee. I hope you find this solution helpful. Please rate it and thanks for using Fixya.
You will need to take the housing off to expose the rewind mechanism. The most likely cause will be a broken rewind spring. Go on the WEB and search for your model and a part list. Locate the spring and order it. Once you install the spring, you will need to pre-tension the spring by by pulling the cord part way out and ciol it on the spool. Good luck
Remove the housing-fan. Remove the screw and detach the pulley- starter and the spring -starter.Put the new spring-starter(it usualy comes with a support). The spring-starter"spires are counterclockwise oriented.Put the puley starter back and the screw.Wrap up the rope clockwise on the pulley-starter until the starter works propperly.Hope this helps you. best regards savumihai71
A new spring comes wound tight enough to be dropped into place in the starter housing (Easiest).
I invert and secure the starter housing and rewind the spring large coil to small (need eye protection, both hands and no women around work area!). I'm right handed so I tension the spring enough to insert it inside the previous coil while holding what has already been installed with my left about 180° from my right hand. The tension will hold the spring in the housing once completely inserted. Then bend slightly the inner most part to engage the starter spool. It will require about 2 turns of pretension to retract properly. If you're lucky you can pull the cord out enough for a pretension then slightly raise and add the withdrawn cord to the spool.
Both methods require about 2 turns of pretension to rewind the cord when pulled. Lou
