Try reading this article, which gives a good breakdown of what to look for in a yoga mat - http://life.gaiam.com/article/how-choose-right-yoga-mat
Yes
yoga mats come in different types:
Cotton
- good for absorbing sweat
Sticky
- good for giving traction
Mediation
- relaxation mats that come with a pillow
Thin
- you can sprinkle water on them to make them stable
Ultra - thick - give more cushioning.
I too own a pilates/yoga studio. I would recommend buying some folding mats
for your studio. Here are the mats I
have - http://www.peakpilates.com/en/webshop/product/610/;
however there is such a wide variety to choose from. Do some searching around before selecting
which mat you want to buy.
Here are some other great styles: http://about.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php/page_id=1265/form_keyword=pilates+folding+exercise++mat/rd=1/skd=1/st=query
Gaiam sells a great
basic yoga mat for beginners. I highly
suggest taking a look at it. I will send
you a link with more information about these mats that should help.
