I've accidentally formatted my SD card and lost my holiday pictures, can i recover them
If you do not write more data into it, you can recover them.
And the best way of sd card recovery is use a card data recovery software.
Here is an tutorial for you:

First do not panic! It is possible to
recover your pictures if you take care. Take the card from the camera (powered
off) and if it has a "write protect" tab then lock it now. Do not try
and write anything to the card or you risk causing more problems.
You can either plug in you camera to the PC
as it should appear as a “Removable
Drive” or put the card in a card reader attached
to your PC.
Next, if you are comfortable with using a
PC then you can download a FREE utility that will recover your photos from the
following link:

If you need something a little more
"user friendly" then you will need to buy the software. If you search
the web for photo recovery software you will find many.
One I have used successfully is RescuePro
that used to be bundled with some Sandisk products. Now you can get it from the
link below:
http://www.lc-tech.com/software/prwindetail.html.
You can try the demo to see what you can
recover before buying.
Remember - Do NOT try & write anything
back to the card until you can recover your pictures to your PC safely!

It depends whether you did a "low level" format or not. Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for. I recommend the listed "PC Inspector Smart Recovery" using it in "Intensive" mode (Look in file menu/settings):

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're cheap:

The "postcard" option is not available in the digital macro (flower with a D on it) or stitch assist modes, nor in any of the movie modes. If you're in any other mode, it should be available under the size option (bottom icon on the function menu).
There may be a way to get your images back if you haven't taken any pictures after you formatted your card. Do a google search on "image recovery".

Sorry for a late reply. These photos are highly possible to be recovered as long as you take the right steps.
First things first - Stop using the camera memory card immediately! Then connect the device where your lost images located to a PC which has installed a photo recovery tool.
If you are running Windows, try Digital Photo Recovery Software.
For Macintosh users, try Photo Recovery for Mac.
Remember - DO NOT write anything back untill you recover the photos safely. Once the photos are overwritten, it is impossible to recover. Best regards.
