Y would my droid kep turning its self off in on olny long enough to say droid wont even stay on without shutin rite back off in the battery not dead

I had this problem when my SD card began to fail. Try pulling it out and rebooting. If that solves the problem, copy the entire SD card to a new one and reinsert it. With luck, you'll be good to go.

You can hard reset your Motorola Droid phone if you want clear all of the data off of the device and start fresh. Here’s how it’s done.
1. Turn the Droid off. If it won’t turn off, take the battery out then place it back in.
2. Open the keyboard and press the X key while pressing and holding Power. The device will power on. Keep holding the buttons down until a yellow triangle appers.
3. Press the Camera and Volume Up buttons at the same time to get to the menu. (I had to press them several times).
4. Use the direction pad to the right of the keyboard to select the Format option.

Droid screen dims to fast in phone mode. Is there a setting to change this?

I'm not too familiar with the Droid but newer phones have a sensor that will turn the screen completely off when its put to your ear. Is there a specific reason you need to watch the screen? Somewhere in settings, under power or power management there should be backlight settings. I know the Droid experiences battery issues and under heavy use will discharge quickly, the backlight may turn off quickly to help preserve the battery.
