Usually on most digital cameras there is a special effect mode if there is one. Black and White setting should be in there.

Another way to do it is to load the picture into your computer and use a photo editing program. Most of them carry a black and white feature to it.

Have you installed the software from the CD that came with the camera. I've had no trouble interfacing to mine from Win 98, Win ME, Win Xp and Mac OSX.
