Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250mb HDD - Spins up then spins down

As the title says, spins up then spins down and parks.  Can here the click locking in the heads armatures. Was working great in a Maxtor 4Plus enclosure but then just died.  I replaced the PC controller board to no avail.
Any ideas would be helpful.  It's a backup drive from within an external enclosure.  Thought that is what the backup drive was for.
Thanx in advance.

When a seagate spins up, and then you hear it clicking for awhile, and then finally spins back down - indicates it's got a bad head.

If you can find a donor drive, and can get your hands on a head removal tool, you can swap the head assm long (assuming you can keep things clean enough) enough to retrieve your data.

Interface seagate barracuda 7200.7 200GB drive sata to usb 2 forum

Hello. You are correct that there are no jumpers, however, when you connected the SATA cable to the Internal hard drive, did you notice there were two similar connectors. One was for the SATA the other, longer one is for the POWER for the drive. If your SATA to USB has both connectors make sure they are both installed properly. Be careful you don't break those little plastic tabs because they are not warrantied. If the drive does have power and spins up then it may not be initialized (formatted) and will need to be initialized using START, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management. or just click on start and type diskmgmt.msc in the RUN box.
Hope this helps..

Seagate Barracuda ATA V 120GB. Using this as an internal storage drive (slave drive). Drive spins up but not seen in BIOS. Drive has clicking sounds every few seconds which sounds like the head searching....

It sounds like a problem with the card on the drive. You could try replace the card with one from an identical drive just to see the result you will get. I have read a lot about what they call "the click of death". So it could well be time for a new drive ckanca. The fact that the bios isnt detecting the drive points to the card. You sould also ensure there is no dirt on the cards contacts with the drive body (by removing the card and cleaning them aswell as ensuring they all make proper contact).

The Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500 GB SATA Hard Drive External falled and now is not more recognized by my pc Win XP

Hello

OK, you need to let me know if the drive spins up, you should be able to hear it. Also, you need to have a listen if the drive makes a clicking noise.

Please be so kind tom let me know.

If the drive makes a clicking noise the drive is done, you will need to take it to a recovery institution to recover the data.

If the drive does not spin up, the circuit board or the power cable might be broken.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

this hard drive is toast and sadly you are half the reason as you never, ever ever open or hit a hard drive.  There are data recovery firms however, they are very expensive.
