It depends on what version of Protools you are using. And also on what it is running on, PC or MAC. Starting with v9 Protools is hardware independent. Which means and audio interface (I/O) should work just fine for listenning to tracks from protools. Depending on your computer it will support direct audio or core audio. make sure the interface supports ASIO as that is the standard and default way to go
It sounds like you have done everything right. It would be a good idea to check both the mic and Protools system separately. If you can, verify that the mic works using another device such as a mixer. Also try getting a level into Protools using another mic, preferably a dynamic which doesn't require phantom power. If you are trying to use an original MBOX under Windows 7 or the latest version of OSX then it may not work at all.
In Protools go into hardware setup and make sure that your interface is being read properly. It may be set to something other then your fast track. Then, in the MIX window make sure that your input is set correctly. If your microphone is plugged into input 1, your input on your protools track should correspond to that.
Pro-Tools 8 and above requires an Intel-based Mac running OS 10.5.5 or later. The newest version you can use with Mac OS 10.4.x is ProTools 7.4, and the oldest version that will work with your hardware is 7.1. The complete system compatibility list is on the Avid site.
If you meet compatibility requirements, but get an installer error, you may have a corrupted download - try downloading again with no other network traffic from that computer during the download. If I read the download page correctly, most of the downloads are upgrade patches for previously installed versions rather than full installation packages. Attempting to run these without the older version in place will generate some sort of error. - how gracefully it is handled depends on the style, skill and diligence of the programmer.
You may also want to do a file system and permissions check on your computer with Disk Utility to make sure there are none of those problems causing hangups.
i got digi 001 running on windows 7...
i left my xp on hard disk while installing win 7. it kept xp on folder windows.old folder. in control panel i saw digi as multimedia adapter wich system couldn't recognice. hit "change settings" -> driver -> update driver
used my old windows to search for driver. it found "Dalvin.sys" driver for adapter. installed that. after that windows recogniced digi 001.
downloaded "digidesign asio 6.11" driver installer for win-xp and ran it.
and bingo - it works!
in every step windows was complaining and asking do i want to do this. just yeah'd everything. as i just had a clean install of win 7 i just thought whatta heck i can install everything again if it would not work, but it did.
so in a nut shell:
1: install Dalvin.sys in control panel for digi 001
2: run digidesign asio 6.11 driver installer for win-xp
for me it worked but i absolutely take no responsibility if you mess your system with this! at least reaper got a sound out of it. i haven't tried to record anything yet. but asio settings seemed to work as they used to do in xp.
Digidesign website had the answer....go to windows, show workspace and change the settings for your relevant disc from transfer T to R...record in the A..audio column.
Thanks Bobcat8
i'm running os 10.5.6 w/ protools 8.0 and the original mbox. i had the same problem. protools opened and seemed to work except there was no sound from either analog outputs or headphones. this worked for me: 1. shut down computer 2. unplugged all usb cables except keyboard/mouse 3. restarted computer 4. re-plugged usb cable from computer to mbox 5. opened protools session 6. hit play and now i'm hearing sound and everything seems normal.
There is no way to 'sync' with protools from the 2488. In order to use your 2488 tracks in protools you have to first export your tracks as wav files and move them to your computer via usb and then import them into protools.
To get Protools files into your Tascam 2488 you'll have to export your Protools files into mono wav files first. They must also have a sampling rate of 44.1KHz and can be either 16 or 24 bit. Then load these files into your 2488 via usb and import them into tracks on the 2488.
