I have an old woods chest freezer. The thermostat (cold control) quit. Do you know where I can find parts. This freezer is 38 years old and this is the first problem.

Freezers don't have controls INSIDE the freezer, as it is too cold for efficient operation. Chest freezers have them on the outside behind the grille where the compressor is. Upright freezers usually has electronic controls on the door. You give o clue as to what type you have or what model you have. You can easily turn it off by removing the wall plug!
Or you can find the manual. 'Off' on a thermostat is normally fully clockwise.
Yes, the freezer temperature means the lid gets very cold. Every time you open it some moisture condenses in the lid and the outside ambient also affects it. The insulation may be beginning to break down and the ice is forming inside. It is not a major problem however and many freezers go on for years with freezing lids!
Is the compressor continually running? If so then there could be a leak in the system or the compressor is damaged. If it's running then stopping, the cold control (thermostat) could be damaged.
Hi,
Please check :
- Thermostat setting, set it to middle position
- Compressor , Check it for malfunction. Check the present of power by using Voltmeter and fix it as
necessary.
