The machine starts and tries to fill up. At this point there is an error "suds". Now there ia an F error and it just keeps running. I had to pull the plug. I was wondering how to see if there was a sock or something small stuck int he drain pipe. How can I check? I was able to remove the panel but have no clue where to look.

Pull the front panel off, look for a plastic piece , it has a filter that you need to pull out. turn it to the left pull it out and clean it. This solved the problem for me. had the same issues.

Could be a sticking water level switch, which controls the water level, or a blockage in the hose to the switch, or a trapped or split hose to the switch. the hose in question is about 6mm in diam, and goes from the sump hose to the pressure switch,if u remove the hose from the preesure switch chamber, check for a blockage there, and blow down the hose to see if it is clear, u should hear the switch click if it is clear, if no click and hose is clear, then I wud say the switch is faulty.
Plz rate my comments.
Thanks

Unplug the machine. Unscrew the 3 screws under the front edge of the washer. The service technician manual is attached to the panel that slides down and off. Find F21 code. See suggested procedures. Note: My drain pump filter had a baby wash cloth in it along with some change that was disrupting the flow. It is exceptionally easy to remove, clean, and reinstall. Just line up installation notches when reinstalling. Whirlpool should have mentioned this filter in the User & Care Guide, but I could not find it anywhere in there.

Hi Gary,It sounds to me that you have a blockage within the pressure systemas this is a classic sign. If you take the top off the machine you will see a round switch with a few wires going to it.This is the pressure switch. at the bottom of this switch is a thin pipe, normally black or clear. there is a small spring clip holding this pipe to the switch, If you remove this pipe and gently blow down it you will probably find it is blocked. You will then need to follow this pipe to the bottom of your machine. At the bottom of the machine where this pipe is fitted you will see there is a chamber and it is this chamber likly to be blocked. Some times you may clear this with a small piece of wire by removing the small pipe and poke wire through, but best way is to see how this chamber is removed and remove it for cleaning.Ensure machine is off at mains. this chamber fills with water and causes air pressure within the switch at the top of machine, which in turn tells programe when machine is full and also when empty. If this fails then machine will not turn off water supply as long as it is on. there fore when you reconnect parts ensure they are tight and clips back in place. Good luck and hope this works. Failing this working you may need to call an engineer to check switch and possible fault on board.
It should start back up when the suds have cleared. Though you may need to manually restart the machine. If
you don't use high efficiency (he) detergent you are likely to get the suds error frequently.
What happens is that regular detergent creates too many
suds. When the machine drains the water emptys first leaving a layer
of suds. The pump can't move suds because of it's poor design. Try to
imagine a hose filled with suds with a small impeller at one end. The
impeller can pull the suds immediately around it away but anything
out of it's reach will just sit there till they pop.
Likewise,
the pressure switch can't detect a lack of pressure because the suds
(being ornery little clusters of air) sit in the space that should be
occupied by water, or in this case no water. Fooling in effect, the
pressure switch into behaving as if the tub still contains water.
Once enough bubbles pop the pressure switch will do it's thing and
the time display will start where it stopped as does the rest of the
cycle, in this case final spin. Or it may give an error code and go into standby mode.
Unless you
just use way too much detergent ten minutes should be way more than
enough time for suds to pop or about anything else to correct itself.
So if it doesn't start back up on it's own try to restart it yourself.
The other possibility is that there is debris in the drain hose that goes from tub to drain pump. Or if drain pump has a clean out basket as part of the drain pump it will likely need cleaned as well.

I do not know where the pump is after opening the bottom panel. Is any any picture or video to show what it looks like?
The easiest way to find it is to follow the waste pipe back into the machine. It will then connect to the pump and be held on by either a spring clip or a screw type metal band clip. The pump is always at the bottom of the machine to ensure thatthe drum is completely emptied after eash wash cycle. If you are not sure of what you are doing then I suggest that you call a service engineer. Before doing anything inside the machine make sure thatthe power cord is unplugged and thatthe water supply taps are turned off.
