There should be a button on the top that opens the watch, under this is a dial, you lift the dial not the button, there should be a click and the watch will stop, then swivel the dial to set the time.

    Now that is confusing!
There are a couple of answers depending on the type of watch you have. Is this a brand new battery type watch or a vintage windup type watch?
If it is a battery watch(quartz) you simply pull the crown out and you will be in the setting position. If it is an old windup watch it may also set that way. If a gentle pull on the crown doesn't put you in the setting position you may have a lever set watch.
This is a little more involved. You must remove the crystal. This will be screwed on and requires you turn it counter clockwise. It it is stubborn try putting the watch between your palms and twist. Once you have it off you will notice at about the 2 o'clock polition a small piece of metal sticking up. Hool this with your finger nail and it will slide out. With the lever out you should be able to set the watch. Push the lever in and now you are in the winding position. Enjoy your watch and write back if this doesn't make sense.

I have a pocket watch i bought in paris but the battery ranout and i cant get the back off to get the battery out. what should i do?

Hi Josh, I do apologize for the inconvenience. Please try the below steps which should be helpful for you to remove the back of the watch and also replace the battery.
  1. Flip over your pocket watch. Remove the back of your watch. The back of watches are either screwed on by four small Phillips head screws (unscrew them) or the watch has a press inserted back (slide a thin knife blade under the edge of the back of the watch and pry it off).
    (OR)
Find the small groove on the back of the watch right above the hinge, place the tip of the screwdriver (the small kind used for the screws in glasses) into the groove and gently pry off the back of the watch.
  2. Remove the circular watch battery out of the back of the watch.
  3. Take the battery to any department store or watch store and purchase a new replacement battery.
  4. Insert the new battery into the back of the watch.
  5. Screw on or push on the back of the watch. Set the watch to the correct time.
The above should be of help for you to have the battery on the pocket watch replaced and have the watch working once again.Best wishes for your effort and thank you for your time and patience.

My watch has stopped working

mcdevito75 here, Unless you have a good knowledge of takeing apart, even just the back off your watch / pocket watch it"s best to look for a small watch repair shop in your area, but here is what you can do to possibly start your watch / pocket watch. If your watch / pocket watch hasn"t been wound in some time and that time varies from watch to watch, the oil in the watch can become a bit thick so as to not allow the mechanism to work smoothly, leave the watch / pocket watch in a warm place, window sill in the sunlight wrapped in a paper towel for anywhere between a few minutes to 1/2 hour, after the watch / pocket watch has been warmed up hopefully the oil in the mechanism has liquified enough to allow the movement to start working. You can also give the movement a little boost, after the watch /pocket watch is warm, pull out the stem as if to set the time of day, move the stem and hands, sometimes this action will get the watch ticking again. If this fails, BEST BET specially if this is an expebsive or keepsake watch, look for a small watch repair shop in your area for serviveing. approx. $45.00

Trying to figure out how to adjust time

You have broken or displaced setting lever in your pocket watch.
That's why it is not possible to set the time. No matter in what position the winder is, the setting gear are not engaged from the clutch wheel and the time adjustment can not be done. At the same time the crown wheel still engaged in any position and this is why it still winding in both positions.
As repairs of this can be done only by skilled man, go and see your nearest watchmaker and ask for help.

It is understandable that I can not execute repairs over the net, so, rate it as if I did it, please.

How do I change the date on a Colibri Pocket Watch?

Usually all quartz watches are supplied with calendar setting mechanism and it is very simple-
try to pull out crown and you will notice that there are two clicks,so, when the crown is pulled out to the first click, the date can be adjusted by the turn of the crown. When crown is pulled further out (second click)- the watch is in hand setting position and you can adjust time.

G-shock Wavecepter is 1 hour to fast

(I posted this solution elsewhere but it should help you as well.)

Firstly, the manual that comes with these watches is absolute garbage, which is a stark contrast from the watches themselves. ( I love casiowatches - high value)

The good news is that Casio DID make a good manual for these wavecptor watches. If you go to this url

http://world.casio.com/wat/download/en/manual/

you will be at a spot where you can type in your 4 digit module numberand get a great document that tells you how to operate your unit andsome of how it works. (Adobe Acrobat - PDF file)

You should be able to hold in the "Adjust" button until the time zone starts flashing and push "Time Memo" and/or "Recieve" buttons until you are in the right time zone. Push "Adjust" again and your are done. The Manual above was very useful for me.

Hope that helps. :-)
