SOURCE: rca turns itself off and on and scans thru all the channels

I have an easier solution, First I want to thank those who posted the solution that the problem is on the small switch board mounted right behind the switches under the picture tube. I figured that might be where the problem was but it's better to to see it confirmed. I thought the problem was more complex like maybe an IC chip got zapped or something but there are none on that board. Only 6 switches, the infared sensor, 1 capacitor and some resistors. I am convinced that in my case at least the problem is caused by humidity. It happened last year constantly durring humid weather in the summer and only a couple of times over the winter when the air is dry and cooler. I did figure an easier way to disconnect all the switches without unsoldering. After you remove the board, flip it over to the solder side and see where the wires connect. You will see them labled GND - KEY - +5 v - LED and IR. The one you want is labled KEY. You will see on the other side this wire is second from the end . Just separate the wires a bit and cut it. That's it. Just be sure it is the one marked KEY. This wire goes thru a series of resistors and the switches and nothing else. Just cut that one wire and put a piece of tape over the cut ends and thats it. it's a lot easier then unsoldering all 6 switches. And if you do decide at some point later to replace the switches, it's easy to resolder the wires and tape it. I did it this way and my TV is working perfect. I was done in ten minutes. You can only control the TV with the remote but so what, thats all we use 95% of the time anyway. I hope this helped you.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your problem. Your TV is shutting down and going into a protection mode to protect itself from further damage as well as consumer safety. It's also running a self diagnostic, to inform the technician where to look for problem. Your power light is blinking three times which represents an over voltage shutdown usually occurring in either your sower supply(caps are a common problem) or high voltage H.O. circuit and support components, which is affecting the ability of the TV to function properly. They are known for this and is a common problem. If you have electronic repair knowledge and equipment then you can certainly attempt the repair yourself. However, if you do not, it is VERY dangerous or even deadly in the back of these sets and you should call a technician for the job. I am sorry there is no consumer fix for you as it is a major fault in your circuitry.

The average repair price for any of these is $125-$300 depending on exactly what is found.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My rca 52 inch hdtv turns itself off after a few minutes

Sounds like the green tube shorting intermittantly. Have a qualified tech use a tube restorer to check for shorts, or the loss of the 300v line to the green tube.

TV Toubleshooting

NO ITS NOT THE FUSE. BCOZ IF ITS FUSE IT WILL NOT TURN FOR A FEW MINUTE. MAY BE YOU COULD LOOK FOR CRACK SOLDER IN THE POWER SUPPLY AREA LOOK FOR EVERY PIN OF THE COMPONENT FOR A CRACK AND RESOLDER IT. IF THERE IS NO CRACK IN THAT AREA LOOK IN THE NEARBY AREA OR IF POSSIBLE TO THE WHOLE BOARD.
