Roper RAX4232KQ0 washer grinds

My washing machine starts making a grinding sound and doesn't spin when in the proper cycles. I think the motor is fine but I'm worried that it might be the gear case or clutch that's gone bad. before I buy an expensive part or buy a new washer I would like to know if the clutch would be worth replacing.

my washer does the same thing. I was told it was the transmission coupling.

Yes they are only about 40 dollars but if your washer doesn't agitate then the problem would be the "drive motor to transmission coupling"

Roper washer RAX4232PQO doesn't agitate or spin

It sounds like you may have a broken motor coupling. This is a common problem that usually occurs through normal wear and tear. Replacement couplers are more resilient and resist breaking much better. If the washer will fill, will not agitate or spin, but will still drain, these are the symptoms of a broken motor coupling. The accompanying noise of the motor engaging and a rattling/grinding sound is also a common symptom. This is a very simple and inexpensive repair. The following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The part number is included in the link I provided. You can purchase a replacement on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool and uses Whirlpool parts, so these instructions will apply.

Model RAS7133pqo

If it agitates, you probably need a new gearcase. If not, check the coupling between the gearcase and motor. Hope this helps!

Grinding sound from washer

the pully is the drain pump they can go bad or may have somthing in it, pump is not bad to replace part us usually 40 -60$ , you could burn belt up and be forced to replace it also, but if you replace pump would not be a bad idea anyway belts are 20-30 $

Grinding Sound

Sounds like the brakes have become noisy, just like in an automobile if they glaze over they start to squeak. This really wont hurt the machine but if you dissasemble the machine (or pay a professional at the most 1.5 hr labor since your washer is the best design and fairly simple to repair) and clean the brakes (basket drive assy) and the drum (part of the tub support)
