The belt has groves, right? Make sure the groves go over the motor pulley from the right. The idler pulley is spring loaded. Place the belt around the idling pulley with the smooth side of the belt on the pulley. This should work.

Dryer was drying clothes started making real loud noise, tub quit turning the belt is broken.

You need to change your idler wheel, your support rollers and your belt. If you have the model number, I can help you further.

Some models you can replace by tipping dryer on its back. Tough part is sneaking the belt between frame and tub. Otherwise remove back panel, remove lint screws, remove control board. Now remove the shell and you can easily replace belt. This is a def diy project. Check youtube for general description. Whirlpool and roper would be similar.

Once you have the drum loose inspect the rear bottom drum rollers and idle pulley for any signs of wear. Flat spots or hard to turn = replace.

Kenmore 80 series dryer. was working fine, now

Hello. When ever a dryer will not turn the first thing to suspect is a broken dryer belt. lift the top on your machine and visually inspect the belt. If it is broken, it is easy to replace. Joe

Belt replacement

Take the belt with you to an appliance store and they will match it up. Much like a fan belt on a car. You won't necessarily need the model if you have the belt. Next, it sounds like your assembly is broken. If this assembly looks to be in pieces, you may need a new one.

Broken Belt--kenmore 70 series dryer

it is not that hard to replace the belt if you have the front panel off of the dryer. place the idler pulley in the holes located below the motor pulley put the belt around the drum pull the idler back and the belt loops around the idler and onto the motor pulley

Dryer wont turn

Yes, it will save you alot of money and work just fine. You will have to shut off the dryer, turn off the gas and/or electric(disconnect it to be sure it is power free). Look at dryer carefully as you may be able to access the belt from the lower front. The belt is easily available at Sears Parts Stores. Do not use it until fixed as it might overheat!

Broken Kenmore dryer 80 series

Hi Dave. The problem is the drive belt. They aren't that difficult to replace and can be done with just a few tools. I'll need the exact model number off of the dryer to explain how to gain access to it, though. The number can be found behind the door on the cabinet (it'll start with 3 digits then a decimal point then more digits, like this; xxx.xxxxxxx)

The part number for the repair is 4392065. This is a complete maintenance kit for your dryer. I recommend it because since your belt wore out, there are other parts that should be taken care of at the same time. Here's a picture and a place to order if you can't find it locally.
