Hi,
We purchased a second hand Zanussi table top freezer to get us over the christmas period. It has been switched on overnight. I am worried as the back of the freezer is ver very hot, almost too hot to touch (round metal thing). Is this normal.
Also how do we find out the age of the freezer as I think it looks older than we were led to believe by the seller.
Thanks in advance.
It is usual for the back of a fridge or freezer unit to get hot at the back as it uses a thermal transfer or heat pump process. As a freezer tends to cool the inside much more than a fridge it will obviously get hotter.
Make sure there is sufficient air flow around the rear of the unit and that no one can touch the rear radiator element, (to prevent burns.)
More expensive freezers actually use a fan to help circulate air around this rear element.
See http://uk.danfossuniverse.com/page2072.aspx for a more graphical demonstration of the workings.
