I just started a small office and need to install an HP Designjet 650C plotter. I do not have a server but use the cable network already installed in the office with a router for my computer, high-speed cable access, and VOIP telephone service. I want to connect the plotter so multiple users can plot via the router. It has a network card but I cannot set up using my computer because it does not have a USB connection. Can someone help me and/or explain the procedure for getting the plotter to work from my computer via the network router? Thanks in advance.
I have a HP 650C, I just bought a Parallel to USB adapter on Ebay. It can plug straight into a computer and then be shared. I also have network card on a HP 750C+ and have it connected straight to my router through an Ethernet connection and it works fine.
Plug it directly into the router and set the printer up on your Win2k/Xp as a network printer via the new printer wizard. The router will allow it to pull an IP number and you will find it on the network that way. It does not have USB because it was meant as an office printer and the option was network adaptor when purchased. If you look at the card in it, you can see it can be swapped out for another adaptor.
