How do you copy a recording from the digital cam sc-dc164 camcorder to your pc.
I have one disc that finalized, one that won't. Can download the software, but plug the camera in and it can't detect drive. I've tried plugging it in to finalize- that won't work, took battery out when plugged in, still won't finalize. can't do it in camera mode, it doesn't have the option- so you have to try on playback and it still won't finalize. I know I'm not retarded, I got one to work.

Your camera records photos on card. So, eject the card, put it onto any card reader, and simply copy your images onto PC.
Second tip - download or install USB driver for Your cam. After installing, connect it to PC. Your card appears like a new disc on Your system. Then copy photos.
Be careful! Don´t unplug the cam. Eject it from windows safely! And during transfer unplugging the card means data loss!
Good luck!
how did you transfer the video from the card to your PC?
did you connect the camcorder to your PC or did you use a memory card reader?
if you can play the audio then what you need is the right video codec for the unit try searching for video codecs through search engines
make sure that the software that you are using to play the video plays the file format of your video,
try using roxio, then connect the camcorder to your computer via USB, make sure that the drivers are installed, play the video through your camcorder then use roxio to capture it real time instead of the usual "copy-paste"
okay so i have founnd the solution happily and i am actually finalizing my disk right now!!! woooohoo plug the camera in and use the remote that it came with to navigate through the menu!! the finalize button is now able to function!! I hope this works for u!!
Most DVD players can't play DVD-R or DVD-RW unless it's finalized (if you record to DVD+RW, it may work ok, but fewer DVD players work right with RW format discs).
Obviously, you need to ensure you are actually writing to the DVD (eg, will they play back on the camcorder). You should see if there's a menu for finalizing the DVDs, that might do it. There are occasionally problems with finalizing discs on some of these DVD camcorders... these discs may not be readable on any DVD player, but might still work in a PC.
The other problem is that some camcoders record in DVD-VR format, which is a special "easily edited" format for DVD camcorders only... regular DVD players don't usually support this (well, some new ones might... this is one of those "evolving standard" issues). You'll probably need a PC to read the disc, edit, convert to a conventional DVD, etc. if you're using this format.
When you format the disk before recording, make sure you format in VIDEO MODE. Once you have recorded, finalize disk. After you place the disk into your computer, open up the folder of the disk. You should see your clips with the extension .VOB;
right click to copy the clip to your desktop. Right-click on the copied file and rename the VOB extension to MPEG. It will warn you that the file might become unusable, but it works everytime. VOB files are Mpeg files. Now you can import into any editing software. Goodluck.
I had the same problem. Called Samsung, they told me not to use DVD+R DL discs (despite their presence in the compatibility table in the manual). They also said DVD+R discs don't need finalizing, which contradicts the manual. I can't get them to play in my PC.
For the first two discs I tried, it seemed to get write errors halfway through the disc, as if it had trouble with the second layer. I didn't record long enough on the third to find out. The camcorder still shows video on the third disc, but I can't finalize it and it won't play on my PC.
Glad I'm only borrowing this camera. Won't buy a Samsung, and probably won't buy a DVD cam.
Put it back in the Camera and see if it tells you the disc is finalized when it tries to format the disc. If it does then you know for sure it is finalized..
I know it won't play in a dvd player till it is finalized. Leave it in camera mode, hit menu, and scroll down till you see the option to finalize. If you finalize it, it should play in a dvd player. I am having a problem with my camera(same model) where it won't finalize the disc. Any help out there?
