Ice Maker for Kenmore Model 106.53609202 does not work but the water still dispenses. Are there any tests I can do before replacing parts?
You can test the ice maker by pulling the from cover off and exposing the modular head as they call it. You will see holes around the gear with letters next to them. Take a jumper wire and place one in the M hole and the other end into the N hole. This should kick start the ice maker. When you here a click sound, sometimes you'll see a little spark behind the gear which is normal. When this happens pull the jumper wire out and the ice maker should do its normal cycle. Things to check for also is the fill tube blocked with ice, is the temperature in the freezer below 10 degrees F? These things will cause the ice maker not to work as well.

When you push the ice dispensing lever, you should be able to hear the micro-switch clicking. If no click, the switch is faulty. The auger motor which is activated by the lever could also be faulty. This is the motor that causes the auger in the ice bucket to rotate one way for crushed ice and the other way for cubes. The auger could also be jammed. Try switching between crushed and cubes to unjam the auger. Empty the ice bucket and start again.

A couple things to check here. First see if there is ice in the tray. If so chances are the ice maker will need to be replaced however these are very reliable ice makers. If no ice in the tray pull up on the ejector blade (don't worry you won't break it) turn clockwise to start the ice maker thru a cycle. The ejector blade is the long white bar with fingers on it that run the length of the tray. Once it completes a cycle it should fill with water. If no water then either the fill tube is frozen over and will need to be defrosted or the water valve is bad.

Either your water tank in the fridge froze up, the waterline that goes up the freezer door from the bottom hinge froze, or the switch that your glass hits is damaged. Do you hear any humming or noises when you put your glass up to get water?

Hello,
There are as you can imagine many possible causes for you no ice condition. I will give you the most common problem for the year model you have. I hope this helps you.
You will need to remove the ice maker from the freezer compartment to check it. Once it is repaired if the following information does help, and you reinstall the ice maker, it should go through a cycle automatically within an hour of your reinstalling it in the freezer compartment.
Once you have the ice maker out of the freezer compartment you will need to remove the white cover on the end of the ice maker and look at the center of the large white gear. If the part inside the hole in the center of the gear is broken or looks twisted, you will need to replaced the module. The module is the part that has the large white gear and is held in the ice maker by 3 phillips head screws. It only comes as an assembly. You can't get just the little broken piece.

The water line freezes inside the freezer door. There is now an add-on water line heater you can install to thaw the line.

Thanks Jason for the quick and informative response. I appreciate you providing your technical expertise. The ice maker appears to be working now. I used a hair dryer to warm up the water line (felt frozen) and also removed the old water filter (had a status remaining of 0) and also adjusted the temperature setting from 0 to 1 last night. This morning there were ice cubes in the ice bin!!
