Unit in Safeguard Mode, Error Code 01

Bought the new JVC Model GR-250 unit in end 2006 and is hardly used for 8 to 10 days.

It was working properly the last time and stored properly. But when tried to use it recently it did not work. When switched on displays "Unit in Safe Guard Mode, Remove and Reattach Battery - Error 01".

The cassette does not eject out.

After removing and reattaching the battery, the above message keeps appearing.

Please Help

Gr-dvl-520u trying to record or playback tape it goes into safeguard mode within 5 seconds. alternatly pressing play and still every 3 seconds advanced the playback without it going into safeguard mod

According to http://www.techlore.com/article/10974/JVC-Camcorder-Stuck-in-Safe-Mode/,

"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove
the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.

If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."

If you are getting E03 or E04 errors on every tape you try, it sounds like a servicing is required.

01 error code - unit in safeguard mode

I solved the problem! Open the video cassette door. Look closely at the gear mechanism and see if there is any small debris in the gears. If not, using a magnifying glass and a paper clip(must stretch it out and use the tip) gently move each gear(gently). I had my unit ON. Once I moved the gear it became unstuck and ejected Mini DV cassette. I then re-inserted the cassette and it worked. The dreaded SAFEGAURD MODE message was gone and it is as good as new.

The error E01 refers to loading motor problem. The camera will have to be taken to a JVC agent for repair.
