In order to remove that and reduce the amount of "yucky stuff" coming into the tub when using it, we recommend a regular usage of a jet cleaning product about once every couple of months

The problem you are experiencing is common to many jetted bathtubs.It is a result of dried bathing water in the tub. There are a couple of solutions to resolve this ongoing problem.
Use your tub more frequently as the water will not have time to fester in the pipes.
Use a cleaning solution made for cleaning the pipes on jetted bathtubs once every three months.

see if the jet faces turn at all. Sometimes the jets are adjustable to allow more pressure from some jets. turn the face of the jet and see what happens.
Bubble bath is definitely out of the question. Provide any of the products that you are using do not have a detergent base or bubbles so to speak, you can use them. Depending on how many times a week you use it you might want to get a cleaner that they use on hot tubs from you local pool distributer. I hope this helps you.
Many time leaks around pumps are a simple o-ring that needs to be cleaned and/or tightened. If the jets are leaking from the back side then the jet will have to be removed and resealed.
