The only problem is that when the main output line is moved or even slightly bent (I mean the line that goes from the output/headphone jack on my laptop or ipod out to the speaker set), I get a very noticeable crackling or muffled sound on the speakers, often at much reduced volume...
It seems that the main line itself is frayed on the inside (looks find on the outside). It runs from the output jack to the right satellite speaker, and the right speaker then has two other lines running to the left speaker and the subwoofer. All the lines and jacks are fixed length and are the old original cables that come with the set (i.e. not the kind where you can easily change your own speaker wiring).
In short, is there a way that I can change this kind of speaker wiring or cable? What would I need, where would I get it, and how would could I do the repair/change? Thanks!
Absolutely you can fix this problem.
What you do is goto your local radio shack and they will have the correct connectors and wire that you need.
If you want you can even bring one with you to radio shack and show them what you want to do.
The fix should only take maybe 10 minutes tops they have alot of do it yourself items.

The original cable runs from the output jack literally into the right satellite speaker, which is sealed and has two other cables going in/out of it. There is nothing I can manipulate on the outside (i.e. not the kind where you can supply your own speaker wiring). There is a screw on the bottom of the speaker where I could open up the whole thing, but I'm not sure what I would be doing from there on.... The set works relatively ok, so I'm hesitant to just open it without knowing what I would do with the apparently fixed wires in there. Any clues or help on the actual removing and then replacing the fixed-length speaker cable?
