Our Sunbeam model SM15A19W over the range microwave quits after 3 - 4 minutes of use and we have to wait 15 minutes and it comes back on. Is there anything I can replace myself?

This has been a problem since we installed the microwave but we had purchased it while remodeling and it was out of warentee by the time we installed the microwave. The whole microwave goes blank until it has had the time needed to come back on then the clock comes back blinking to be reset.

SOURCE: Microwave runs for approx. 3 minutes then every thing goes blank

These are two different problems, so I will address them separately:

FOR RSM1958:

Sadly, we hear of this over and over.

This is usually due to a defective or loose magnetron causing electrical interference and disruption in the control circuit board.

If your magnetron was recently replaced, it may have loose mounting nuts or bolts or maybe the wire mesh RF gasket was not installed or got pinched.

It may also need a new high-voltage diode and stirrer, and the cavity may be affected.

GE had a campaign (but not a recall, mind you!) covering several models.

Details are in their bulletin at http://207.234.249.73/mwd/ge_mw_mag_kit_bulletin.pdf

Even if your model is not on the list, the same problem can occur, requiring a kit. I just think the difference is that GE has stopped paying for the repairs.

The parts kit (that GE used to pay for) is part # WB27X10489 and is shown here: http://207.234.249.73/mwd/wb27x10489_ge_mag_stir_kit.jpg

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

FOR JYVIBAR:

Please reply back (contact me directly http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk ) and let me know when and how it is failing.

It may be failing when you open or close the door, when you hit the Start button, a few seconds after you hit the Start button, etc.

SOURCE: clock frequently goes blank and needs to be reset

You have a faulty display module due to one or more components leaking. Some models have a seperate display module that can replaced without the complete board having to be replaced. If not, the board needs to be replaced. You need to ask your spares suppliers that have info. on that model.

SOURCE: Just purchased a sunbeam over-the-range microwave,

Generally the charcoal filter mounts above or in place of the metal screen covering the air intake on the bottom of the unit.

Have Kenmore microvave and the vent starts on its own

Actually, that's a feature! If you cook much on the range (stove) beneath the microwave, the heat will cause the microwave bottom to heat up quite a bit (just touch it!), and the microwave will turn on it's exhaust fan in an attempt to save itself from burning up. It will shut off in about 15 minutes after you turn off the source of heat.
But if the fan comes on by itself even when the microwave is cool (or at least not hot), then you probably have a defective fan thermostat. This thermostat is located behind the control console on the inside bottom of the microwave.

I have SUNBEAM microwave, model SM0701A7E--how do I set the power to MEDIUM? Thank you.

After a long search and reading I finally got it. To adjust power level follow these instructions:

1. Set timer for amount of minutes you want.
2. Hit "power" button"
3. Change the power from 100% to another percentage by hitting numbers 1-9
4. Press Start

New maytag power shuts off and comes back in half hour

Depending on the model you may need a 15 or even up to a 20 amp circuit to operate the microwave. Check the installation instructions to be sure. What is most likely happening is the circuit in your home is not powerful enough to run the load of the microwave oven. If this is the case it could be dangerous. I would strongly recommend you have an expert examine the house wiring prior to starting the unit again.

The keypad of my Sunbeam SMW982 microwave oven has quit functioning.

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

Otherwise, for assistance with your Sunbeam® Microwave, please call 1-866-257-3336.

Please let us know if this does not help you.
