Other than cleaning the three lens inside and the mirror it may be the age of the set.

toni, you`ll need a tv tech for this problem, spark gaps need to be cleaned, crt sockets need to be cleaned and crt pins on all 3 crt`s need to be sanded, this is a common issue with this model set, good luck, BMW Rider

SOURCE: picture getting dark on my 70" mitsubishi projection

I FINALLY got the problem fixed!!! Gee I feel stupid. I called a great local TV repair guy and he came out and fixed it for next to nothing. The stupid part is that all he had to do was take apart the TV's front fascia and clean the mirrors and things inside....it was FILTHY!!! Then the TV was like new again. It looks so good I wanted to kiss him. He advised that you really should be cleaning that about once a year or so to prevent this problem. Also, I live in Nevada with HIGH dust so that doesn't help either.

SOURCE: LG Projection TV has dark picture

To do this, press the ENTER button on the TV and the MUTE button on the remote at the same time. After 5 seconds the screen should come up and it will read "Lamp use time...Total lamp use time ....lamp reset" Press the center button on your remote (the circle button right in the middle of the four directional buttons) and you will be reset to -0- again. Your orange light should now be off.

Do you have a center speaker near it? maybe move it, that is what I have done and it seems to have gotten better.

I have an old Orion TV134R . The picture is so dark on it that I need night-vision goggles to watch it . How can I brighten it up? I don't have the original remote control. Thank you.

how about in the menu button you can not get an adjustment in brightness control. if the display in the screen is too dark either in any channel or even watching a movie from an input source like dvd player, then i may say that the picture tube need now replacement.

Phillips Magnavox 9P6040 C104 tv color adjustment help

If you turn color off and stand back and examine the screen---if it is not black and white but yellow looking you have bad Glycol in the blue picture tube which is quite common.

Easy way to know for sure is with set on and rear cover removed peek with a small mirror at the three lens---don't touch anything with the set on===each tube red, blue, green should have a picture with the set on.

Likely you will find the blue one looks like a floodlight with little or NO image/picture.

My 61" hitachi rear proj has a very dark picture.

It sounds that lamp in TV is weak and not throwing enough light to bright the screen for good image.
How old is this TV and did you replaced its Lamp recently?
If lamp has not been replaced yet or in last 2-3 years, replace it.

Dark over night

Does the TV have a light sensor? If so, turn it off.
The light sensor limits the backlights intensity at night or when it's dark in your room in order for better vieweing convenience.

If you are in a dark environment, it really pains your eyes when the view is too bright. Same works the other way around. If it's day, and light in your room. The light sensor will dimm the backlight for it isn't needed.

Let me know if this solved your question.
