My Sanyo Xacti S4 won't power on and the red light above the LCD screen next to the view finder flashes. If I hook it to my computer via the cable it will power on work for a few moments then shuts down and the red light flashes again. Sometimes the lens will zoom closed before shutting down but most times not and is left out with no power. I am using brand new rechargable energizer batteries.
Very likely your AC adaptor is broken and not providing power to the device.
I have a Sanyo VAR-G9 that failed.
Take your AC adaptor to Radio Shack, and they may be able to give you a "universal" replacement.
I am using a Radio Shack P/N 273-1696 adaptor and my Xacti HD2000 is now working again.
I connected my Sanyo VPC - 603 digital camera to an AC/DC adaptor due to battery malfunctions. After about 5 seconds, i heard a spark sound and the camera went off. What might have gone wrong? How can it be repaired?

I had my Sanyo Xacti S4 out to take a picture, and without any warning the camera shut down without recoiling the zoom. The camera will not turn back on again, and I only get a flashing red light (beside manual viewfinder). I have checked the batteries (fully charged and no problems) and can't figure out what the problem is.
I have had my Sanyo Xacti VPC-S4 for many years and It has always worked until a couple of months ago when the red light near the viewfinder just started flashing, even with brand new batteries. It does nothing when plugged into the computer.
I do not have an AC adapter but tried it once with an adapter for a car port that was the wrong voltage but I don't know if that did any more damage (it was not apparant).
I have the same problem. my Sanyo S650 turns on but immediately the LED near the LCD screen flashes red and the zoom is also gets struck. when i take picture it simply shuts off and it doesn't take any picture. even with a new fully charged batteries it shows low battery sign.
