SOURCE: Hoover Bagless Windtunnel - Self Propel feature not working

I have the same problem with ours. If you lift the vacuum by the handle it breaks the lever on the transmission. You can find a replacement cable and lever on line for about $16.00 it is somewhat involved to repair but can be done by someone with mechanical ability. You can try and find a repair shop but be careful, they sometimes tell you the part is not available and try to sell you something else. I think they should be able to do the job for aprox. $80.00, but they may want more. I did it myself plus the height adj. knob for $24.00

Belts get hot when fibers from carpet get wound arounf the belts mounting shaft. Best to take a razor and cut off any fibers so the belt doesn't get hot again

Hoover windtunnel self-propelled - will not turn on

You probably need the switch replaced. It's fairly simple to do youself, and it is a known problem with these vacuums.
You can order the switch from hoover for about $10

Self Propelled does not work

if you look below the headlamp of your vac you will find a cable that attach's to a piece called the actuator arm. either this piece is likely broke or the cable itself. always work the power drive smoothly or things will break. also could be that the smooth belt is stretched and will cause the same problem. belts should be replaced every 4 months. good news is all parts above should be under $5. dont let anyone tell you that you need a power drive assy, that usually isnt the case. good luck!!!

The Hoover WindTunnel self propelled is a machine that we see in our retail stores (Vacuums Unlimited) constantly. The benefit of having a supposed "self-propelled" machine wears of quickly after the numerous time you will need to take this machine in for repair.

It's unfortunate you've had to spend so much money already on repairing this machine. I know you've said you've already replace the belts and filters, but if you want you can check out a video we made on repairing the Hoover Windtunnel.

If you are looking for a reliable upright, at GoVacuum we'd recommend the Sebo X4 upright (http://www.govacuum.com/seauxseupvac.html). The machine is incredibly reliable and easy to maintain. Thus far, we haven't had one warranty repairs come through our doors. The machine itself has a lifelong warranty on the belt because the machine automatically shuts off the motor if an obstruction is detected, preventing any undue stress on the motor or belt.
