If you have the 5D Mark II (the latest version,) the raw converter in Photoshop CS3 does not support the format. If you have the earlier version of lthe 5D, download the latest raw converter update from Adobe (free}
If you have the Mark II you can do one of three things to continue using Photoshop:
1. Upgrade to CS4. The latest update for it's raw converter supports the 5D Mark II.
2. Download the Adobe DNG Converter when 5.2 version becomes available and convert your cr2 files to the DNG format which CS3 can read. In the past this has been available as a free download form Adobe, but it's not currently on their site.
3. Use the raw converter that came with your camera.
You may have to go to the Adobe web site to download the latest version of the raw converter (it is 5.2 and is a free upgrade for CS4.) It was available on November 25, and if your version of CS4 packaged before then, it would not be included.
With respect to conversion to DNG (Digital Negative Format) the converter is available from Adobe, not Canon.
I Hope this helps.

Hi there,
You say the problem only just began. What has happened to Photoshop in between it working and not, ie, any upgrades, updates, installs, etc? This will no doubt reveal the answer to your conundrum. Get PS to check for updates then do them all, especially any referencing Camera RAW updates.
The next thing you will want to check is that the image files are ok. Download the latest Canon image viewer from here. You can also download the drivers directly from the canon site. Just click the link at the bottom of the page.
All the best

MikeH999, Thank you for the reply. Adobe help said to upgrade to CS4, which I have done. The problem persists in CS4. I have requested a fix from Canon. I am not sure how to use the RAW converter that can with my camera. I loaded the the Canon software that came with the camera & I can view the images with it. Forgive my ignorance, but are you saying that I should open the images with the Canon Software and then convert/save the file as DNG? Again, thank you for the help. DFT
MikeH999, Thank you for the help. You were correct. The 5.2 update solved my problem. Than you again. D
