I just opened my Realtek HD Audio settings and clicked on 5.1 sound.. then assigned the different ports.
Make sure you have the latest audio driver update for your soundcard, and go through the software options, it'll be there somewhere..
If you think you might have a RealTek soundcard, you can find newest Realtek HD audio drivers here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/173930788/Vista_R211.zip

Has XP support too. Install and reboot, then the 'red' realtek volume icon should appear in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
You'll find the settings manager in there.

Good Luck

Actually that setup is best for my current setup. But before the driver I was using was the Realtek R1.50. I've just reinstalled it again. You might have to uninstall your driver
and then install this older one - I didn't have to i just installed it
over the newer one, restarted my pc and when I was back in windows went
into the Realtek Audio Manager and set my stuff to 6 channel and
everything worked fine. - I think the trade-off on this is you might
lose some of the features especially if you have a newer chipset, but you'll be able to set up 5.1!

Maybe you should use this one, mate:

If at first you don't succeed.. etc.

Let me know how you get on.

How to connect logitech X-540 to LG 42

Hi, You should have an Audio outpout RCA behind your TV. Plug it 2 RAC then the cables to an RCA/ 3 mini JACK adapter. Plug the 3 mini jack to the X-540. You have your audio output settled up on your X-540. Thanks and have a nice day !

Connecting Logitech X-540 speaker system

Most newer TVs have a set of audio output jacks (red/white). All you need is an adapter like this to plug into those audio output jacks, then plug the speakers into the adapter and you'll be good!

Logitech X-540 connecting to dell dimension 3000 ???

Your problem is you have a 3 channel sound card on your dell and you bought 5 channel speaker system. You can plug the green to green and get 2.1 sound but you will have to by a 5.1 pci sound like in the link below to get the full use of your 5.1 system.

Connect DVD Player to logitech X 540 Surround System

Bad connection on that one speaker, if you have tested the system with other equipment and it works thn you MUST have a bad connection INSIDE you DVD player. If your DVD had a whole channel out on your output amplifier I beleive then 2 speakers would not work so more than likely you have a bad solder joint inside system for DVD output

Plugged to computer

yes you can it has an audo cable that plugs right into your laptop. Depending on your sound car in your laptop, you might get 2 of the speakers working, because your audio card might not support audio 5.1. Which means, you have 5 speakers, but your audio card might only supprt 2 speakers, because its a 2.1 which is standard in a lot of laptops.
