Press and hold the top and center buttons at the same time (upwards of 30 seconds), until the screen turns on (assuming it's charged, and also doesn't have water damage).

If that doesn't work, plug it into your computer, and do it again. This time, when the screen comes on, let go of the top button, and it'll place the device in recovery mode.

(look up instructions on how to place the device in recovery mode)

My ipod screen has stopped responding any suggestions?

Hi, I don't know if you solved the problem with your iPod but you can try this as I had a similar problem and it worked for me:

Most problems with these older iPod's can be solved by resetting it (and I didn't lost anything stored on the device).

To Reset iPod:

1. Connect iPod to a power outlet using the iPod Power adapter.
2 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again).
3. Press and hold the Select and Menu buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

That's it. hope it solves your problem.

SECURITY CODE MODEL NO A1137

Like all electronic devices, iPods sometimes freeze and become unresponsive. Sometimes iPods lock up when they're dropped on the ground or come in contact with water, but less destructive accidents may also cause them to stop working. All versions of the iPod have a way to reset their hardware should they stop playing music or refuse to turn off.

Check the "Hold" switch on the top case of your iPod to be sure it isn't activated. An iPod will appear frozen and unresponsive if this feature is activated. A lock symbol will appear on your iPod's screen if it is in Hold mode. Switch the "Hold" button on and off once. Place one finger on the "Menu" button and another on the center button. Press both buttons at the same time and hold them for up to 8 seconds. Release the "Menu" and center buttons once the Apple logo appears on your iPod's screen. Try releasing the buttons and pressing and holding them a second time if the logo does not appear, as it can sometimes take several tries to reset a severely frozen iPod. Press and hold the top button and the center "Home" button on a frozen and unresponsive iPod touch to reset it. Hold the buttons for at least 10 seconds and wait for the Apple logo to appear on the screen, then release the buttons. Connect your iPod to its powerblock or a computer if it is still frozen. Wait 5 minutes and then try to reset it. Sometimes an iPod can appear frozen when its battery runs out and just needs a few minutes of power to start working again. Hope this helps.

My zeppelin has stopped playing altogether, ipod works fine, but no sound ... yes i have turned it up!

if the aux input at the rear works, then the fault relates to the docking arm or the interface on the back. (Does the ipod charge on the docking arm, have you tried another type of ipod, as different ipods have different connections through the arm!)

if the aux input does not work, then the main board/amp/pse could be an issue.

if the model is more than six months old it will probable have the known problem boards, so contact b and w servie and they should check it out.

My ipod is not starting

Hi, here are 3 options: 1. Give it a good charge on the computer.
2. Erase all your songs on it so it has a chance to recover
3. How do I fix my iPod if it will not turn on, turn off, or wake up?

"Your iPod Won't Turn On" from the Apple Support Site provides in-depth instructions for troubleshooting an iPod that won't turn on. Apple recommends that you:

1. Make sure the Hold switch is off

2. Make sure the battery is charged

3. Reset iPod

4. Let iPod's battery drain

5. Update iPod's software

6. Make sure iPod is the only device in your FireWire or USB chain. Disconnect everything but the mouse, keyboard, and your iPod, then see if it will turn on.

7. Make sure you are using the FireWire or USB cable that came with your iPod, and that the cable is in good condition.

8. Try connecting iPod to the built-in port of a different computer to see if that works.

"iPod Stops Responding or Won't Wake From Sleep" from the Apple Support Site notes that you need to "charge your iPod, then reset your iPod" if it won't turn off or wake up.

For solutions to other specific problems, please refer to the iPod Troubleshooting & Repair Q&A and try the iPod Help links provided for each iPod model on EveryiPod.com.

If after going through all of the above, the issue appears to be a hardware problem, site sponsor Mission Repair offers free hardware diagnosis and an affordable 24 hour repair service by mail for all iPod models.

Have a nice day and Goodl uck to you.

After i hit the middle button to turn on my ipod nano, they stop working but when i plug it into a cpu it acts fine. no the lock is not on it, and yes i have reset it.

goto the website http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
and download the selected firmware for the ipod model you have. if your unsure if the model / type you can goto http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/#
and type in the last 3 numbers of your serial number to find out

if you want to downgrade or upgrade, choose the firmware you want to downgrade to, then go to itunes and shift-click on restore and choose the firmware you want to change to. this will restore your ipod

Always connect to the same computer. If the I pod is recognised - updat the software. If not - reset it (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320), which is different depending from the model. It will re-install the operating system and your files will all be deleted - a First a working operating system will be instlled - then it will restore all your files :-)

Connect iPod and it just says "reading"

This happened to me. What worked was turning off the ipod (not stand by mode). Turn it back on and plug it in, it should work.
