My Rowenta Garment Steamer will not steam up.

I have water in the tank and when I turn it on the light indicates that it is on, but no steam will come out.

Same issue. Power lights up, but no steam is made. Trying to find a parts manual, or service manual to guide in the disassembly as some of the attach screws are hidden.

My Rowenta steamer is just 3 weeks new! Has stopped producing steam even though the unit heats up as usual.I am sooo disappointed! Do not have original packing or receipt so I am lost.

Same problem - Am wondering of a calcium build-up on the inside is to blame.

Same problem...clean machine, light goes on but no heat!

  • Anonymous Apr 10, 2009

I have the same problem.  Looks like it is going into standby mode.  Orange light lights up (the power light is also the same but I think is of different color - I am color blind and cant tell). I checked the a meter and it is drawing no power.  Removed the four screws at the bottom but looks like there are hidden screws and so cant take it apart.

Probably the sensor inside is shot and the steamer thinks the tank is empty and so goes into standby mode.

I found the hidden screws. They are under the wheels. Pop out the wheels (just the rollers) and you will see two more screws. Then unscrew the black plasic part (where the steam hose connects) and you can take the top off.

I dont know the solution yet.

My steamer turns on and randomly produces steam...takes forever for the steamer to steam and then it only lasts for a minute or so. The hose is very hot, but no steam coming out!

Ok. This thing is caused by scaling. If the steam generator runs out of water the sensor thinks the tank is empty and causes the machine to go to standby (basically switch off -- orange light comes on). The solution: Open the machine and clean it.

MAKE SURE THE POWER CABLE IS UNPLUGGED BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

1. There are six screws ( phillips - you will need a long screwdriver). Two of them are hidden under the wheels (just pop off the rollers and you will see the screws)

2. Open the steam generator (there are four screws) and be very careful with the 'O' ring -- you damage it and you can say good bye to the machine. Clean it if you see scaling. The amount of scaling present would indicate how hard your water was. This itself may not be cause of the problem but now that you openend the machine, you might as well as clean it for better efficiency.

3. Disconnect the hose to the steam generator (it has two circlips) and clean it. Mine had hard deposit of scales preventing the water reaching the steam generator.

Re assemble it.

Good Luck

Where are the initial 6 screws to open the machine? I am only seeing 3 after taking off the wheel...

I found all six screws, but there seems to be something still holding it together, is ther a trick to getting the cover off, once all six screws are removed?

I had the same problem and noticed that there is a small plastic piece that pushes into the water reservoir to release water into the boiler. Mine broke off, and no water leaves the reservoir into the boiler. It looks like suspect design to me, and I havent found a replacement part but I may try to epoxy the piece back on to solve the issue (I hope)

How to clean a Rowenta steamer

WHen cold tilt over sink and empty and rince every 3-5 uses depending on how much you use it. Water sitting in the tank gets moldy and bad, rinse tank and use Britta type filtered water only.

My rowenta steamer is not producing steam but tubing getting hot when I turn on steamer. Suggestions?

see this causes and fix it. God bless you

If the iron heats but steams improperly, inspect the soleplate and clean the vents (see below) and flush sediment out of the steam chamber .

If the iron produces too much or too little heat, test the electrical cord . Also test and, if needed, adjust calibration of the thermostat .

If the iron does not spray properly, inspect and clean the nozzle.

If the iron leaks or spits, clean the steam vents, nozzle, and tank.

If the iron sticks to fabric, clean or repair the soleplate. If the iron stains fabric, clean the soleplate, clean the tank with a commercial cleaner, and use distilled or filtered water.

How to use a steamer.

  1. Plug in the steamer.
    • The steamer usually comes with a smallish padded square with a strap that slips over your hand. (If you so not have one of these, cut out a square from some stiff cardboard, pad it using cotton batting, and cover it with a heavy, smooth, waterproof or water-resistant material.)
  2. Make sure it is steaming nicely before you use it. You check by pulling the little trigger on the handle, and seeing how much steam issues when you release it. You actually want to use this while steaming as well, in order to release more steam when needed.
  3. Hang the garment, and slip the padded square over one hand.
  4. Place the hand with the square on the underside of the garment, and use it to keep the fabric smooth while you steam it.
  5. Use the steamer by holding the nozzle close to the garment, and pulling both it and the padded square in downwards strokes.

Is there a product to run through a rowenta pro garment steamer to eliminate build-up?

To start with, use distilled water for steaming. This will prevent calcium build-up. I buy bottles of distilled water for ironing/steaming only. I have never had calcium build-up from using distilled water for ironing/steaming. Do not use tap water!!!

You can buy some CLR (stands for Cacium, Lime & Rust) (can be found at Walgreens, CVS, Target, Walmart, etc.). You can run this product through your steamer to eliminate build-up.

Good luck!
