Take it back to the Service Centre and ask the guy to "show you how it works, because you can't get it going". Although Kerosene and Diesel are similar, as fuels go they are different. You can combust anything in a Diesel car, but you can't burn anything in a Kerosene heater.

May have to drain & remove wick and dry or replace with new wick .

thats not recommended. the yarn needs to be fireproof.
better replace with a new wick - they cost only about US$ 9

On most portable kerosene heaters I have seen there is a lever for extinguishing the heater. Once you press that lever the dial should rotate to the off position automatically.

Have you checked the length of wick. May not be long enough to get down into fuel. RON

I went to a site that has questions and answers about a kerosun heater. from what I gathered, instructions on how to replace the wick are included with the replacement wick.
