You need remote to get menu to set the clock then go to timed recording setting. Then you load a new tape, then shut down the vcr and wait for the timer to start the vcr and recording for you.
If you need a manual, google for sharp vcr manual download free from sharp website.
When you press record, does the tape eject? if it does, make sure the safety tab is intact. if not, put a piece of scotch tape over the hole.
Do you hit the record button on the vcr or a universal remote? On a remote, you may have to hit recort 2 times.
1 - To start with.. Plug aerial lead into the "RF input" on rear of vcr --> now you can tape programs (providing vc is "tuned" correctly)
2 - Plug a lead from "RF output" into tv's "RF input" --> now you can watch programs on tv _independently_ of vcr (ie can be watching 1 program & taping a separate one on vcr)
3 - Plug red/white/yellow cable from vcr's "VIDEO/AUDIO output" into tv's "VIDEO/AUDIO input" --> now you can 1) play a tape in vcr, & watch it on tv & 2) change what watching on tv via vcr's remote
* Note: This is for analogue terrestial television (aerial on roof), not digital/satellite tv, connecting to stereo, etc, etc (the "more involved " setups)
The way to connect them is as follows:
1. Connect the cable from the wall to the cable input on the cable box.
2. Connect the cable box RF output to VCR RF input (VCR must be on channel 3).
3. Connect the RF output from the VCR to the RF input on your TV (TV must be on channel 3).
After all the connections are done, leave the VCR and TV on channel 3 and use the cable box to select the channel you want to record programs from.
Good Luck.
on older vcr's
there should be a sp/slp or ep button on your remote or vcr. if not when you set a program to record, the option to choose should be there. sp= 2 hrs, ep =6 hrs.

You need to have an antenna in (from TV antenna or cable). Set the VCR to that channel and press RECORD. Or use the on screen menu to set up the recording time/channel
You really need to have a manual to find the step by step instructions for your VCR. Go to this website and search
for a VCR manual from Sharp. I was there and did not find the exact manual.Download a couple of ones that have similar model numbers and follow the process.
