A close friends son owns this computer and had to do a Hard boot because the laptop froze. when the laptop restarted it came right up to Operating system not found.
now when i go into the bios it doesnt see the Hard drive at all. i have attempted to run a repair with vista cd but with out is seeing the HD i am unable to repair. i really do not want to open this laptop up and remove hd to extract the data if i can help it.

Sounds as if the HDD crashed. No fix but to replace HDD. Sometimes putting it in the freezer 2 hours and then letting it thaw works, but after multiple attempts and the same failure, you will need a new HDD.

You have no choice but to open it up, this is to check that the hard drive works or has disslodged, pull the hard drive out and then reseat it again, reboot the laptop and see if the bios has found the hard drive, if it does try to boot into it

I attempted a reseat and this didnt work either. i removed drive and connected it up to another pc as a slave to remove the data so the drive is working in that sense. for what ever reason the bios is acting dumb or the MBR is gone. the vista disk is not seeing the drive either so unable to run a repair. people shouldnt buy Acer lol
