Depends on terrain, trees, hills, buildings, pole barns, etc. Those little throw away radios that claim up to 30 miles cannot. The curve of the earth changes every 22.5 miles. So, I often say, 0.5 miles to 5 miles on a 4-5 watt business band walkie talkie with a fully charged battery. It is often more, but could be less. Please be more specific. They talked to the Moon and back on 1 watt.
