I bought two spin master 3 disco lights 2 years ago and the bulbs blow on almost every 4 hour disco i do. I have bought more bulb holders from maplins which will take 750 amps. I always use mains 240 to power them. I sometimes have 4 disco lights on the same lead. I took them back to maplins in the first year of warranty and they sent them away to be tested, they come back to me saying there were no faults, but still they blow on every disco I do, does anyone have an answer ?
I've got two spinmaster 3's and this problem is 100% the bulb holders.
The poor quality replacement holders from maplins generate extra heat and cause premature bulb failure.
Find your local dj supplies store and get a new lamp holder from there and use Philips Broadway ELC-5 lamps (500hours instead of 30)
I've had the same bulb in my spins for the last 18 months without a problem since changing the holders.
I too used to purchase a lot of disco items from Maplin, however, I have found that thier products are not always the top of the range you would assume. with regards to any replacment lamp/bulb you purchase from Maplin I have found that they not only go quickly, but the ecl's tend to self destruct and last maybe 2 shows, and at the time they were £10.00 eache. I have since come accross a reasonable seller via ebay who I now purchase all of my replacment bulbs from, and they are boxed as sound lab bulbs, less that half some time a third of the price of a Maplin replacment bulb.
hope this helps
