GE JVM1190 microwave oven light comes on, but no the FAN or "microwaves"

Clock etc. see fine, so main 15A fuse is OK. (unit is about 6 years old, normal house-hold duty, rarely use the convection cooking piece) When I hit "minute cook" relays click (normal), light in oven comes on, but the (rather loud) FAN and "microwave HUMM/Noise" doesn't. (its almost as if the computer is doing all the right things, but isn't "getting" that the actual NUKING isn't happening) These over-the-range hood+convection units are not particularly cheap (or easy) to replace, so with some assistance perhaps DIY repair is an option. thanks for any insight/assistance, -- MikeE

If it were just just not cooking, I would suspect the magentron. But since the fan is also not working, I think you have a bad door switch. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, as well as other specific troubleshooting information and help. In my professional opinion, no one should work on a microwave unless they are fully informed and aware of the deadly hazards and necessary precautions. You can find safety and disassembly text files (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at http://www.microwavedisplay.com You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

My 10 year old GE Spacemaker XL1400 microwave has stopped heating the microwave's contents.

probably a magnatron failure

Fan & light don't work but microwave is fine. Fixable?

The fan may be defective, cools the magnetron, but it also may be a bad door switch "controls light and fan" If he did no testing I would look for a second opinion.

I have a GE JVM1190 Microwave Oven. It's sounds

It's cooking when it shouldn't, but the internal cooling fan is not running, so the magnetron is overheating, which can kill it.

Then when it gets hot enough, it trips the magnetron's thermostat, interrupting all power to the microwave. When it cools, it comes back on.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.

The problem is almost certainly that the power relay on your control circuit board is shorted.

We regularly repair such control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one-year guarantee.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more free information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

GE spacemaker Power goes off and clock needs resetting

Try going to the breaker box and shutting off the power to the microwave for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn back on and set the clock. This fixed my clock and turntable both. Apparently turning off the power resets the software in the clock.

No power to GE Spacemaker Microwave

I have model GE Microwave serial # JVM2070SK02. I start to cook something and it shuts off 5~10 seconds. Keyboard is still lit up, but no clock, fan, light and you cannot operate anything on the key pad. Unplug the unit and it resets. Sometimes it cooks, sometimes it doesn't? It is getting more frequent with the shutting down problem?

JVM1190 wont cook

You have a blown actuator. This is the device that creates the microwaves that cook the food. The cost of one of these will be as much as a new unit.

Most any standard microwave temperature probe should work, from places such as Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.

GE Spacemaker 2.0 Microwave just died!

If you're getting power at the outlet, the most common problems causing a "dead" condition are a bad thermostat (or thermal cutout / thermal fuse) on or near the magnetron, a blown internal fuse, or a problem on the control circuit board. I would suspect the thermal cutout / thermal fuse in this case. You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 If it seems to be a problem on your control board, we repair these for $39.95 nationwide in most cases. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk If you need more help, feel free to follow up here, but please include your model number (e.g. JVM1190, etc.) I appreciate your thoughtful rating of my answer.
