most those are in the dumps now, parts hard to find, extreme.
are you running HP notepad.? program, ?
does it type wrong characters in notepad.
1: XP (is it) is infected. as all are... now... endless bad, here.
2: the keyboard has stuck keys. so it's bad ,kbd.
3: the XP is setup to some foreign language, and looks odd.
for example japanees , not english , so change it back.?
4: PC has hardware problem deeper like low power supplies ,etc.
does it run ok with the old now useless battery pack removed. be 1st step in all case of LT failures.
does it run ok with a free linux CD booted

5min work there and BAM answer.
It is in a particular file or everywhere you are typing? if everywhere u are tping then press (function key ) fn+Numlock key for laptop. it will be correct if it is in a particular file then check the file format and another editor for opening the file.

Try reinstalling the driver for the keyboard. If that doesn't work try the keyboard on another computer. If the same thing happens you probably have a faulty keyboard and will need to replace it. If not, check for a more updated version of the driver at the manufacturers website.
