Leaking diverter valve

Well water may have caused a restriction where the diverter to the hand held attachment leaks while the water is flowing from the faucet set.

  • Anonymous Sep 05, 2012

More specific, the diverter is a "pull" method instead of a "turn" method to make water flow in to the handheld device. I will attempt to pull the stem out, back flush and replace O rings or whatever seals may be corrupted. What type of tool do I need to remove the stem?

Is it a kitchen faucet or a tub faucet? if it a kitchen faucet it will be a cartridge issue, if it is a tub faucet it could be as easy as a o-ring or a separate cartridge. in any case the cartridges are usually in the main part of the handle and you usually have to take apart the faucet. i know this may sound funny but make sure you turn off the water to the faucet, you would be surprised how many people try to fix this with water on.

SOURCE: low pressure and flow on hot water side of single handle faucet

It could be one of two problems, one simple, one serious.

  • Easy fix
  1. Turn off hot water angle stop under sink to faucet.
  2. Remove supply line from hot angle stop.
  3. Place end of supply line in a small bucket to catch some water.
  4. Turn on cold water for a couple of seconds and backflush debris from faucet.
  5. Reconnect supply line.
  6. Turn on angle stop and test
  • Complex fix
If you have steel pipes you may be experiencing reduced flow due to corrosion in your pipes. Reduced hot water pressure in the kitchen faucet is usually the first sign since this is the faucet that is most used in the home.

Repiping is a job for a professional. Another symptom you may need a repipe is orange colored or rusty water.

SOURCE: Greetings! My Kohler kitchen faucet

Begin by shutting off the water to the faucet. Then, on the back of the handle you will find a small button. remove it with a small knife blade and underneath you will see a 1/8" set screw. Use a 1/8" inch allen wrench to remove the set screw. You can then unscrew the bonnet and remove the diverter. Take the diverter to a hardware store or plumbing supply to purchase the appropriate repair kit. goodluck.

Page 2 on this web site has the diverter listed. Sounds like the diverter is sticking or hanging up and not working right. The link below has information on the faucet you have so I hope this will be helpful for you.
First you could take it off and clean it and check it out for any blockage.

The faucet is rated at 6.7L/minute (<2 gal/m) and I would expect that's a design of the cartridge. You could measure flow with spray head attached, then remove head (see link) and measure again to see how much the head reduces rate of flow. You could try removing the check valve(s) but not sure if that will work as it may leak.

My GWL11 Fisher &Peykal washer stops at rinse light light. Return water flow is very slow compared to what it was full flow.

Diverter valve bad or most likely partially plugged, restricted, held part way open by debris if water also comes out the drain at the same time this is the problem could also be bad control board but likely just plugged valve. Chean out debris and start checking your pockets better these machines will take up to dime sized debris and this is the result

What to do if i can't stop the water flowing from the shower spout and there's little water pressure coming from the shower head and a hand held shower?

One rule I live by: more parts, more problems. Sounds to me that the plumbing/valves were not insalled properly. If you hired a profesional plumber, have them fix it. I am a licensed profesional plumber and I offer a 1 year warranty on all my work. If the contractor did the work and does not hold a plumbing license, that person is still responsible and may have to suffer legal consequenses.

I washed a rug and now the machine is not draining the water.

The drain pump has been block and it requires cleaning including the diverter valve. Disconnect power then lay the machine on its front on a cushioned surface to access the drain pump and the diverter valve at the bottom of the tub. Remove the inlet and outlet hoses of the drain pump and the diverter valve and clear any debris that is blocking the flow of water and preventing it from draining out. Check the impeller of the drain pump and make sure it is not blocked, restricted or damaged.

Also check the diverter valve for the same condition as the pump described above. The diverter valve is where the drain pump and the recirculation pump inlet hoses are attached from. Make sure it is in the drain position while the drain pump is working. Replace the drain pump and/or the diverter valve if deemed necessary.

I have the following codes po410 and po491.......can u please tell me what they are so I can get my car fixed asap

P0410 - SECONDARY AIR INJECTION (AIR) SYSTEM
P0491 - SECONDARY AIR INJECTION (AIR) SYSTEM INSUFFICIENT FLOW (BANK 1)

Secondary air injection (trademarked as Air Injection Reactor) is a process where fresh air is injected into the exhaust system to allow for a fuller combustion of exhaust gasses.

The possible causes are:
SAIR pump low or now air flow
SAIR bypass solenoid leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed
SAIR diverter valve leaking/blocked or stuck open/closed
SAIR air hose restriction
SAIR vacuum hose restriction or leaking

Check to make sure your air filter isn't dirty - and replace if needed. Otherwise I would suggest having your local trusted auto repair facility diagnose and repair the issue. A scan tool will be needed to properly diagnose the issue.

Kohler rite temp with diverter. When the tub is turned on water leaks out the shower head. Changed the diverter didn't fix problem.

You could have a restriction in the tub spout or just too much pressure. Diverter only restricts flow to tub spout so any restrictions to the tub spout will cause water to go up to shower head.

Water is leaking around base of "spout" and

If you have properly replaced the diverter assembly, there is either a problem with valve or debris was left in the valve from old diverter when new diverter was installed. Disassemble diverter by pulling spout back off. remove new diverter and check valve. Cup your hand over faucet and turn cold water handle on to attempt to flush any debris left behind. Try several times then reassemble. If this doesn't do the trick then replace. Get a quality filtering system and take care of your new faucet by making sure it's dry and polished after use. You won't be replacing your fixtures as often from calcium and corrosion.

I just installed the valve new. I have a shoewe head and a hand held that feed from the unit. It was intended to 1) serve the shower heas alone, 2) serve the hand held unit alone, 3) put water to both...

Assuming that your two heads are fed from the typical curved wall mounted shower pipe, what you need is a diverter valve. Removed both heads till it's down to just that curved pipe. Get a diverter valve from a plumbing supply store. Tell the sales folks that you want to install a diverter valve so that in one position, the hand held receives water and in the other, it cuts the hand held and puts it to the reg. shower head instead. They should give you a "T" sort of fitting. The female threads of this screws into that curved shower pipe. Then you will find two male thread ends. These connect to both your shower heads. Finally there will be a push/pull knob that is operated to control which head gets the water.
